Found this:
Quote:A VOSA spokesperson confirms: “Should you present your vehicle early and the vehicle fails the test, your original certificate still remains valid until its expiry date.
"But this does not mean that you are entitled to continue to use a defective vehicle.
“However, once the defects are repaired you can continue to use the vehicle until either it is retested or the original test certificate expires.
"Remember a current test certificate does not allow continued use of a defective vehicle on a public road.” ------------------------------

Yes - I remember reading that some while ago - I suppose it depends on the defect and whether that defect would make the car unroadworthy under the Construction & Use Regs and such...... 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

My wifes MOT runs out 4.11.18 and it says 'to preserve the anniversary of the expiry date, the earliest you can present your vehicle for test is 5.10.18'
So it can be taken in some 3 - 4 weeks before it expires........ Sorry, I didnt mean to quote your post!

I love the idea Chris’s wife has an MOT. I didn’t realise that was a requirement. When does it come into force, after three years of marriage?

Saturday is here.........we have cancelled stuff to make sure we are available for our Saturday fitting slot..............
and a phone call at 8:10 from Autoglass saying that the fitters have rung in to say they have a windscreen for a Range Rover not a Discovery!!
They admit it is their fault as no-one checked what had been delivered........
So the saga continues........ ------------------------------

Friday 29-12-17, exactly one month after requesting a replacement windscreen, dozens of phone calls, two failed attempts, we arrive at appointment number three...
Will it actually happen today? I will keep you posted! ------------------------------

Just turned autoglass away as they had brought a Fuyao screen to replace my factory fitted screen. The fitter didn't even try to talk me round. I assume they've got a pile of chinese screens that no one will accept.
Allegedly they will call to make another appointment.

Autoglass just replaced SWMBO's Disco Sport pan' roof on Saturday at home in our garage. A tiny, tiny, chip propagated into 6 foot crack like a crazy road-map from front to rear and then across the glass.
Two men for 4 hours, did a good job and not seen any marks on the cream trim anywhere. Have to get a hell of a lot of interior trim released to drop headliner and 'cheesewire' the sealant to release the roof.
The replacement was supplied, incorrectly, with a black roller blind fitted so they had to detach the original one and rebuild it.
