Winch Rating Question

Looking at various winch specs, is a winch with a gear reduction of 156:1 more powerful than a 230:1 or is this just the line speed?

Assume that motors are the same 4.6HP and are both 9000lb rated.

Don't understand these things so help appreciated Smile

The 156:1 will spool the line faster, but the 230:1 will be able to pull a heavier load. It's the same as a gearbox ratio. In high gear you normally have a 1:1 ratio, but in low gear you may have a 3:1 ratio, allowing you to pull a heavier load but at a lower speed.
