Winch Power Connections
Just installed an ARB Bull Bar and a Warn XD9000 on my '05 LR3. The positive connection for the winch is easy. Where are people connecting the negative lead? I found a couple of chassis grounds but would rather have it connected to more substantial ground. I can't see an easy way to properly connect to the negative terminal on the battery via an engine ground point or something similar.
This is a LHD, NAS, Petrol V8. Stock battery on the right side. '05 LR3 (Disco III) Trail, 5 Passenger V8 petrol, LHD, ARB Bull Bar, Warn XD9000 Winch

On previous LR I've fitted winches to I've taken the negative back to the battery. On the grounds that I don't trust the earth studs to cope with the winch power for a long time.
A winch is good reason to have a second battery. Rob Smith
Silver rools OK
As they said above - back to battery for best results.LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

There is a negative post behind the fuse box were the battery lead connects to.Its a real pain to get to , so i removed my negative lead from the battery , drilled a hole and tapped it out .

wiggs, I think you have the award!!! I was looking for that post behind the battery case, but like the drill and tap idea better.
Thanks for everyones input and help. Photos to follow in my LR3 Night Crawler post. A second battery is in the near future, but I just bought 2 winches and 2 bull bars, so SWMBO says wait a month at least!!'05 LR3 (Disco III) Trail, 5 Passenger V8 petrol, LHD, ARB Bull Bar, Warn XD9000 Winch

Very easy to drill and tap as its very soft metal.
Just put a rag underneath while doing it so you dont get filings everywere G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

I need to do this soon but don't have a tap-n-dye set. Could I drill right through and fasten with a nut and bolt or is it likely to come loose?2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Put a very small drop of blue locktite in the threads where the nut will run up over it as it snugs down and tighten it up with the star washers. Never be an issue after that. Too much loctite and it will interfere with the electrical connection.'05 LR3 (Disco III) Trail, 5 Passenger V8 petrol, LHD, ARB Bull Bar, Warn XD9000 Winch
