Norto,
Birdsville Track is usually good, except closed after rain (does it rain in Oz any more ).
Last time I drove it in a day. (Birdsville to just north of Maree)
Tanami also good Alice to the W.A. border, then becomes a goat track until the Wolfe Creek turnoff, OK after that.
Of course, all our dirt roads vary on the length of time from when they were last graded, amount of traffic, rain, etc.
I am heading back to the Kimberley next May, wouldn't mind doing the Simpson again, if you want to link up

Hi guys,
Just back from the Gibb River, excellent trip. If you are thinking of May you might run into trouble crossing the Pentecost River, as even in early August it was half metre deep. In Augustr the raod was in pretty good condition with the exception of the trip up to the Mitchell Falls. Plenty of vehicles in Drysdale station getting repairs. We took the easy option and flew over the falls, spectacular.
Sounds like a top trip though! Take the road less traveled. Dual battery system.ORS drawers,LR cargo Barrier.ARB Bull bar, side protection bars,Mickey Thompson ATR's 17" rims, Rear wheel carrier, radiator guard TPMS Mitchell Bros Tow Hitch LR RAI Steel Rims , GME UHF, Off Road GPS, Llams (yet to be fitted)

Norto,
A search on this forum for "Wilpena" threw up May 8 - 11, but I don't know if that that is definite
WayneD,
I'm pleased that you had an excellent trip, it's a great part of the World
The Pentecost is tidal, I crossed it in June in "Access" mode (not that I had any choice, see "My D3 Died", under "General") and it was only up to the bottom of the doors.

Jonesy63, Its a bit difficult trying to traverse the Gibb River Rd in access mode with all the bongs and flashing lights showing ABS failure etc., even if I now know that it was (mostly) electrical.
Refresh my memory Jonesy. I seem to remember yours actually stopped. Dead
How long were you without your D3
I waited over six weeks to get mine back

Hi SKP,
Sorry - got a cold and feel like cr@p!
Mine sprung a diesel leak out of the high pressure fuel pump, which was dumping diesel on the turbo. Lots of smoke, rough running, diesel on ground, etc. After I switched it off, it would start (and run like a chaff-cutter!) - but could not move under own power. There was another person on the D3 forum that had this problem too - same spec as mine and build month.
It took 3 days and lots of long distance phone calls - to get my D3 to the dealer. It then took about 16 days to repair. Once I got it back, there was clearly something not right, so it went back in again for another week - and they replaced the injectors. Now it is running perfectly <touch>
Yes - six weeks for your repair seems way too long. My wait for 16 days included having parts shipped from UK... it sounds like they had to do a lot of problem determination on yours, then ordered the parts. Not to mention shipping
I hope you stuck it to your dealer to get LR Australia to offer some freebies!
Cheers,
Rob

Im with you Norto.
I have some (non D3) mates meeting me at Maree after the Wilpena weekend and we are going to do a big circle up the Birdsville Track, along French Line and back via Coober Pedy.
Its way too far to go just for one weekend! Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

Sounds like we have the first "fireside discussion" topic
(that is, after we have discussed the misfortune of our UK members not being able to attend the event). Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.

maybe you should take this thread back over to the new "sticky"? Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
