As I said the data type (MP3, video, whatever) is irrelevant, different lasers are required to read the different disk formats not data. DVD & CD are as different as VHS & Betamax or Blue Ray & HDDVD.
The IHU doesn't have a laser to read MP3, it has a laser to read the data on the CD, the data it reads is deciphered by the software which determines if it's MP3, CDA or something it doesn't know how to handle such as one of the many video formats. If it had a laser that was DVD compatible it would be able to do the same with the data on a DVD

They have indeed DD, but if you dont ask you will never know. Very strange that Landover only say not to use Dual/DVDPlus discs, they do not say do not use DVDs only use CDs

Can someone tell me what this is please???? I don't own an iPod, but I do have USB sticks with 2Gb capacity. Is the 'iPod installation' a factory fit thing??? Confused

The Ipod hook up is a dealer fit thing ...but others on here have done it far better themselves & got the Ipod holder in a far better postion on dash & below dash. The USB plug on mine was installed in upper glove box & does the 2 gig stick thing fine.

The selection of tracks plays in a sequence that follows the order you transfer your tracks from PC/Mac - the track have to be on the root directory - they cannot be in folders or transferred as albums - individual MP3 files only. The version of Ipod attachment I have (260 odd pounds fitted) holds the old 80 gig & new classic 80/160 gig Ipod - but I dont think they give the inserts to hold the "new" Nano - maybe these will come
 BREXIT - done properly.

Mines got the factory Ipod thingy fitted but as I don't have an Ipod I've never tried it. Was thinking of getting a 'nano' but I don't have any inserts to 'hold it' in place but after BLFarrar's post it looks like I'll have to forget that. Sad The glove-box USB works for my 1Gb stick but not my 6Gb 1" hard-disk.

Dual/DVDPlus discs

Please be aware that a new generation of DVD discs is being adopted by the music industry. They are known as Dual Discs or DVDPlus discs. They have digital music on one side and video content on the other. Current in-car audio systems with a front loading CD player may load and play this type of disc, however, it is likely that the disc will not eject and will block up the player. Such damage to a CD player will not be covered under warranty.

Slimer, I hear what you are saying about different lasers to read the data, but I would have thought the laser to read data (MP3) would be different to the laser to read video content. The head unit has a laser to read MP3 data, that is all that you would burn onto the DVD. The paragraph above from the handbook, says that although a dual layer DVD may load AND play, it may not eject. They only say not to use dual layer DVDs.

I suppose the only way to find out is to try it.

Don't - it won't work and it might break your head unit.

Revisit what Slimer has written , the format (MP3, WAV etc etc) is irrelevant here it is the laser mechanism that is the issue. DVD discs require a different laser and processing gubbins to CD discs. DVD players can read CDs but CD players can't read DVDs.

As far as the format you are talking about is concerned what the info you have posted is saying is that the CD audio side *may* play in a standard CD headunit. The DVD side never will unless it is a DVD compatible HU which we're all clear that the one in the Disco is not.

Finally as for dual-layer well that's something else entirely and is unique to DVDs.
