My wife's intermittent problem ...
My wife drives a D4 that we have had from new and now has clocked up 95,000 miles. She has experienced an intermittent problem which for once isn't about me, it's about her Disco.
Symptoms are a shuddering that develops as driving, that builds up over a minute or so from a mild feeling through the steering in to a whole vehicle shudder that almost becomes a shaking. She pulls over and switches off for a few minutes then can set away normally. This happens sporadically without any apparent causal pattern and I estimate only manifests itself every few hundred miles (I have never experienced the problem myself despite tests drives etc).
I have visually checked all tyres, wheels and checked bolts. Tyres are Wintracs that are 50% worn.
Vehicle has been in to dealer for diagnosis a couple of times and had new brakes (including a new calliper, discs all around, pads etc) but problem persists. The dealer has it again at present but no sign yet of a confident diagnosis. Any experience or ideas on what might be wrong would be very gratefully received.Disco 4 TDV6HSE

Have you had both calipers replaced??
Sounds to me to be a sticking caliper...had this issue myself....drives normally for a number of miles without issue but pad is still in contact with disc... Heats up and up until it gets progressively worse as the pad and disc get so hot that it starts shuddering... You pull over wondering what on earth is happening...get out examine car can see nothing obvious.. During this period the pad and disc are cooling and thus shrinking again....drive off normally and the process starts all over again except that the resident heat is still there so the symptoms develop a bit faster.....the whole process starts all over again...
To diagnose this just feel the alloy wheel... One will be hot to the touch when it's done it as the heat transfer builds up through the hub and alloy....
Tried to clean mine up and clean all the brake pad sliders but to no avail...replaced the caliper and problem solved...

+1 for sticking brake. Might be the electronic park brake thats binding.
Important thing is, next time it does it, stop and check each wheel for excessive heat. If its the epb, it usually discolours the centre of a rear disk. My old D3 did this fairly regularly, and all it needed was a proper epb service and adjustment.
I would say that if you had new disks, maybe they just put them onto the old epb shoes, and did not run through the correct adjustment and bedding in process.

Constriction in brake flexi pipe can also induce brake binding if replacing calipers it's worth changing flexible pipes also.
