Wife sent me shopping and I think I made a mistake
Under instructions I was sent to buy a pork joint today on my way home. So I went to the farm where we normally get our meat and he mentioned that he had too many pigs and the abbatoir wouldn't take them all. He offered me half a free range pig for £80, so I thought great I'll do that and we will have a few joints.
SWMBO was not impressed when I walked in and asked if we had room in the freezer. I didn't quite realise how big half a pig was.
Still I won't be sent shopping again

Sounds a good price
But surely in order to sell you half a pig, then he would have had to send it to the abbatoir to kill it?
And if they had already killed it, then surely it wasn't part of the reason why he had to get rid of it?
Surely he'd only solve his problem if he sold you half a live pig 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG
we buy free range pigs, turkeys and chicken from a local farmer ....
We have about 40kg of turkey mince in the freezer just now as well as more pork chops than I care to think about, but one thing it tastes much better than some of the stuff you get at the local butcher.

The abbatoir normally take them and sell them on, but they wouldn't buy them all, so he got the extra one's back. Couldn't believe it when he bought it out of the cold store on his shoulder .
So far I have used up the spare freezer space at parents and my parents next door neighbour
Guess we will be eating pork for a while.

Funny you mention that as I just cooked some belly off the half pig we got off a friend tonight.
Tastes soooo much better than what you can get in the shops butnot prepared to shop standard and had the pliers out to remove some of the rather thick black hairs on the skin. Felt like I was plucking a transvestites leg!

yep...done this once...4 families decided to take a share in:
1 pig
1 calf
1 lamb
half a deer
assorted free range chickens, ducks and a couple of geese
We had meat distributed with friends and family in freezers across the country
as I said - we did this ONCE...The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
