Thank you discostick for the pictures. Slowly building up the needed courage needed to do the job Started today removing bumper and inner fender. Sprayed the downpipe bolts to possibly make them easier to come loose. Questions: is it possible to remove the engine without taking out the crossover pipe first? Does the transmission stay in place or does it need to be removed as well?

I have today removed the crossover pipe from mine but that is with body off. Mine is a auto and the bracket holding the crossover pipe behind the engine is bolted to the gearbox. However, there are two bolts that attach the crossover pipe to this bracket so I suppose with these two bolts removed the crossover pipe can be left on with the engine .
Crossover pipe does not have to come off, and the gearbox does not have to come out either

So the answer to my question is yes. Took me 6 hours to pull engine out. Left aircon gassed up and connected.

Hi everyone,
I'm a Disco 3 owner now and have loved it, problem is I sent it to a local garage to be serviced (I sourced all genuine parts) had brake upgrade all round, paid bill and drove away. Car drove and felt fine, I stopped at the pub for a pint and when I left and started the car is was running real rough and wouldn't rev. I called the garage who had serviced it and met the guy in the pub car park the next day. He plugged it in bit no codes, I had it recovered back to there garage where the blanked off EGR valves had injectors on one side tested (all ok) No luck
they sent it to another guy who had a 'specialist' to look at it and he thinks the chain to one side of cam has failed.
The car was never driven or revved whilst it was running rough so potentially no valve damage. I'm a bit confused, fed up and don't know what to do now as there telling me its £1000's to fix.
Would really appreciate any help.
thanks
Martin

Hi Pete,
Sorry if I'm a bit confussed, I'm sure the cambelt was not changed, they said that there are chains at the back of the engine that have failed on one side. The service parts I sourced was just oil. air and fuel filters.
Have they fit the oil filter in correctly, with the spigot located, if this is not fitted correctly, then the engine is starved of oil, and the top of the engine will have been starved of oil, ie the chains for the cams.
Or the front cambelt has slipped a tooth, or the front tensioner has failed.

Hi Flack,
I don't really know if the have or have not fitted it correctly, can I check by having a look at it?
Are you saying that by starving this of oil the chain would snap after just 20 or so miles?
Evan if they did not fit it correctly they have had it back and if they realized what it was they would have fitted it correctly so as to not get the blame a?
