Which is best audio source?

I done the deal on a 59 plate D4 HSE today and pick it up on Saturday.
I notice it has the connection for the iPhone lead in the top box lid but here are my questions.

1. Would a genuine CD in the stereo sound better than music played from the iPhone? If so am I right in thinking that the CD player in a 59 plate HSE is a 6 disk multichanger?

2 if it is the iPhone which cable do I need to use and charge a iPhone 4S and can I control this from the sat screen and steering wheel controls?

Thanks in advance for any help

Although an IPhone is good at all things it is noted for not be great at music quality. A CD will sound better. Also an original CD will sound better than an MP3 CD.
For D4 specific answers I'm sure someone with one will be along soon to give answers. Unfortunately I'm a pauper with a D3 lol.

My CD unit is just a single.( on 11 plate)
Did have the 6 auto changer in my old D3.
Initial thought was it was a step backward until I discovered that apart from using my iPhone for music, there's also a USB port on the lid.
And the USB Stick I use holds round 60 CDs Shocked

So is yours a HSE and what is the quality of the music like from your iPhone and USB stick?

A usb would offer digital quality sound the same as a CD I believe? If your playing via aux it'll be analogue.

I use USB sticks - no worries about theft, remembering to take in and out the car and, as noted, can hold huge amounts of music so you can divide into folders if you so like for different types of music. Sticks only costs few pounds these days and are, literally, plug'n'play in the car

Controlability is via the car controls and it shows folders, albums, artis, etc. on the screen for search/info', etc.

As to sound quality I'd defy anybody to really notice any difference in a car environment

Will the D4 play lossless (rather than MP3 etc...) format music from a USB stick?

As an aside, you might find that the socket fitted won't charge the iphone 4. There is a replacement part (about £45 from TLO) which is a straight swap, and only takes a couple of minutes.

I have a 2009 HSE, and use the iphone all the time. I'm a music lover (both classical and more up to date), and can't really fault the sound quality. I use the loss less transfer on iTunes. I don't know whether the Logic system in the car helps, but like I say, no complaints here. I don't even know if the CD player works, as I've never tried it.

As for the lead, contact Nick (TLO) and he'll sort you out. Thumbs Up

New CD can load 6 CDs onto the hard drive
Bluetooth works well too but kills battery.

Back to OP - CD. Even my dab is pretty rubbish

I have MY11 HSE and find USB is quiet compared to same volume settings for other sources I.e. DAB and an old iPod nano that I leave plugged in. Never actually tried a CD in the 2 years I've had the car - job for spring I think.

Steve,

I must admit that I didn't try the USB as I had the ipod lead in the car. That charged an old ipod, but wouldn't charge the iphone 4, hence the socket change.

Thanks everyone for you input. I decided to go for the USB option in the end, I bought a 16gb USB stick and opened an Amazon account.

I have to say the quality of the audio is excellent and I do not find it any quieter at all than the radio or CD
I will not be bothering with the CD again and I will Rip all my CD's onto the memory stick.

It does everything you need to do and if you get bored of any tracks or albums you can just delete them in a few seconds on the laptop and add something else, just plug it back in and go.

Very pleased with the USB option Thumbs Up

The D4 HSE 59 plate will allow you to load from memory 6 discs into the unit on the dash, seems strange feeding 6 discks into the slot but it works. I also went for the USB stick option.
