Which Iid Tool
Hello all you in the know.
I had a BAS for my D3 but I am looking at a better fault code reader/ diagnostic tool however I know nothing about them.
I have seen alot of you guys have the IID BT modules.
What can be done on these units - read all fault codes/live values/change things?
Can i activate anything using this such as towing electrics (I have a HSE and wondered if I could do anymore to upgrade it)?
Can these read/change other cars (D3/4)?
Can these be used with a macbook pro?
Many thanks to you in advance

I'm a lot more ignorant than your good self - I have no idea what Iid is - but I'm now thinking 'good grief' - what have I let myself in for ordering a Land Rover - (with its dreadful history of faults/gliches) do I have to analyse myself what the problems are?
My Land Cruiser just works - (a bit like Apple products) ..... with no problem - (not quite - but you get my drift....) never have to analyse whats going on - life's to short for all this surely? - I want a product that just works! 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

There is loads of information about the IIDTool scattered about the forum and quite a few worked examples of fault finding. There are lots of real-world screenshots in my gallery from D3s, D4s and RRS.
The BT version will do all the things you mention on your list on your own vehicle. It will also do most things on vehicles that it is not VIN-locked to, with the exception of CCF edits or reflashing.
When used with an iOS product (I use an iPad mini, so that is where the screenshots are from) it is very easy to use. Of course, the manufacturers of the tool have built themselves a commendable reputation for going above and beyond when it comes to customer service.

Thankfully the D4 does not have a dreadful history and is not full of faults or glitches, far from it. Clearly you do not have to analyse your own faults and you may never have a fault whilst you own the vehicle.
To many owners a diagnostic tool is the ultimate option to pick when buying the vehicle. Far cheaper than most options and gives you control over your vehicle without reliance on the dealer. If it was provided as an OEM option in the brochure for just £400 with a list of all the things it could do, including the ability to add other genuine options for a fraction of the normal brochure price you would be mad not to tick it. Tools such as the IID can pay for themselves very quickly, even without a vehicle failure.
Perhaps another point is worthy of a mention. The D4 is a very capable off-road vehicle and many of us have to use these capabilities and some even do it for fun. Driving in these circumstances where no normal recovery vehicle can reach makes you think how you may need to get the vehicle going should things go wrong. You would be mad not to have a tool such as the IID in the vehicle in these circumstances. Think of it as an electronic spare tyre.

The simplicity and 'just works' factor is often used in the context of the IID and the familiar Apple feel helps.

Yup.
Just got mine and it is very impressive I am just scared to press anything just in case I end up with a car leaning to one side D4 HSE all the way
