For those of us boing-less ones...
there is a correlation on the 'superceded MY's' with the boing occuring just before the airbag light on the centre console goes out - the one to the right of the lock / unlock buttons... Personally, I always wait for that indicator to go out before starting

As someone who has just picked up a MY07 car I have a boing-less car, I am concerned though that I should be waiting for some system check before I drive off - I havent been doing this previously, am I missing something?

MJC73 - probably depending on which member of the sales staff did your handover.
I bought my D3 from the Gold Coast dealer and was capably informed about the boing and a whole lot of other things as well. So I am surprised.
But, I would wait for the airbag light to go off before starting a diesel engine to ensure that the glow plugs are at the right temp to start the engine. In your case, a petrol engine, I would wait for the light to extinguish as I read that the software systems are checked and that is why you hear the boing on the MYs before MY07 models.
Maybe your MY07 manual has a reference to it.

The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

Thanks Leigh
I'll definitely do that from now on - maybe they've solved the system check boing issue in the MY07's as it hasn't caused me any issues yet *touches wood*
