Wheel studs
Hi all new to hear and I’ve just bought a d4 commercial I loved the look of the vehicle but didint like the alloys so I bought some after market alloys I had a look at all the landrover ones on that auction site but just couldn’t find what I wanted hence the after market ones I spoke to the seller and he confirmed they would fit my disco 4.
When they arrived I was straight down the tyre fitters to have four new Goodyear duratracs fitted and the wheels put on the disco first problem they incountered was that the new wheels were wider than the old ones and would require spacers secondly the short studs on the hubs were not long enough as the centres on the new alloys are thicker so if I went shopping determined to get the wheels fitted.
A week later I had what I needed the wheels are now fitted and look great the only problem is the edge of the tyre is slightly wider than the wheel arch the narrowest spacer I could get with studs in was 30mm
I have seen some 15mm ones that will fit but you need bolts not studs.
So my question is are the d4 studs hammered in on splines or are they threaded if they are threaded does anyone no what size and pitch the thread is ? So I can get some long wheel bolts to replace the studs and fit 15mm spacers.

I could be wrong bere but think the last time land rover used threaded studs that screwed into the hub was in the early 60s.

What size are the wheels and tyres?- 18” will not fit a D4.
Do they have the correct load capacity for a Discovery?- if not your insurance could be invalidated if they are not notified and agree on the none standard wheels being fitted.
Discovery’s eat wheel bearings without spacers, with them......not recommended It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

There 19” rims with 255-55 duratracs fitted the rims are 8.5j the I had the discussion with the seller before I bought them and he assured me they were suitable for a d4.
By the sounds of it they are nock in studs not threaded?

You may have to strip and examine them as it is highly likely they are not originals particularly on the front and different manufacturers may use different methods, they are more likely to be splined knock in type, the hubs come as a unit that cannot be split and you may have problems fitting longer studs in particularly on the rear.
I can understand your problem with them being wider, I run 275 in summer and the car really gets messed up on the sides from spray from the wheels.

Welcome. Don't forget to advise your insurers of the spacers, wheels & tyres you have fitted.

Thanks for all the info guys it looks like it’s going to be serious hassle to change the stud lengths looks like I’m going to have to stick with the 30mm spacers the tread of the tyre doesn’t stick out past the arch just the side wall when you look straight down hopefully this passes the mot when it’s due next year?
