Wheel scratches - Opinions invited

I noticed some scratches and "patches" on the inside of two rims. They are LR 17"s used for offroad (so no surprises where and why this happened...)

Here are a couple of pictures:






Questions/opinions invited as to whether anything should be done here ? Possibility of serious corrosion setting in, thus causing wheel failure etc ?

(I know nothing about this type of thing...)

 The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

I've got same, not worrying as looks just cosmetic. With 17" rims cheap as chips and not original wheels not too worried. Thumbs Up

Okay...good to know. The scratches in the first picture were probably a result of trying to get out of this little predicament...the scratches are on the driver-side front wheel...the one that is buried...

Bear in mind I'm not a techie "guru"!!! The external laquered layer is damaged (like mine) but the internal spar is fine and shouldn't be vulnerable to corrosion as it is an Al based alloy. If anyone knows different please sing out!!! Mr. Green

A quick scurf off with an abrasive mop in a drill, and some primer and top coat brushed on it wouldn't go amiss JF, the canker will spread if you leave it. Wink (if you want to try and preserve them that is).

My 19" wheels have the same scratches from getting stuck in sand (something much easier to do in Western Australia than in most of Europe - nice to see that you can do the same thing though). I have just decided to savour the memory of what caused it Very Happy - and in my case managed to get un-stuck just before the tide came in. Whistle My wheels see a fair amount of salt water and it hasn't progressed appreciably. That said, I appreciate DN's advise on how to clean it up and protect the wheels.
