Wheel Protectors

I am not keen on having two sets of wheels and tyres, mainly because they are a pain to store. Has nobody ever come up with a set of wheel protectors, they could be plain plastic discs which are held on using cable ties or the wheel nuts. It would also save having to swap the wheels over if it was a quick off road trip.

Maybe a stupid idea, but they must be easy to make and it would stop the road wheels being Censored up.

Not so daft Thumbs Up could work the only problem is filling up with mud and then driving from one lain to another but worth looking at.

I may get one of our designers to work on it when they have some spare time to see what's possible.

I would think covers would cause more damage, once stones and grit get forced between the them and the wheel - unless they could be sealed to the tyre

Probably that's why they have never been made. We have a designer who did a lot of packaging designs including the Pantene shampoo bottles etc. I will ask him to have a look, but I won't hold my breath.

Sealing it to the rim would definitely be a problem as I have had the balance weights torn off on Salisbury Plain.

like the principle though, could keep a set in the car for those unplanned moments...........

don't Honda use something like that on their new cars? Whistle

What size rims do you guys have? If someone made some protectors how much would you be prepared to pay for them? How long would you be prepared to spend fitting them? I'm working on a project along those lines at the moment so it would be great to understand the problems you have.

I seem to recal this being asked before. not sure if it was on were or in one of the off road magazines. Would not have thought it would be to hard to make a set out of rigid plastic and get somebody who has an off road set of wheels to try them out.

I think that was to protect the alloys from the chains. They didn't stay on very well without the chains in place, despite three sturdy zip ties.

Is that about right Axel?

Hi,

with the chains it's perfect, no dammage or any scratchs but without, the 3 zip ties are too weak and meaby too cold to support the charge in the ruts. So best mount with something easier to out on and off... or meaby with only one zip tie just the time to put the chains on (don't have 6 hands Laughing ), after the chains take all in place.

ps : on the other side i put some strips of foam (for sealing door house) to prevent friction between the lack of the wheel and my plastic disc
