Wheel carier options

1st post on what looks like an excellent resource for the disco3.

Looking at wheel carrier options.
It looks like there are only two, Kaymar & 4x4intelligence

Do the 4x4intelligence one operate OK?
Are they Australian made?

Allan

I think you can use the kaymar one with the existing bar or the kaymar bar. not sure where the 4x4intelligence one is made but think it is in Oz. Goes onto existing bar.
They need to add an extra rear light as ADR requires 45deg viewing angle for lights. I think Kaymar put lights in the bar?
Someone with one will correct me I am sure. Very Happy

G'day allanj

I have been watching forum for some months - quite interesting and informative. I read lots but don't say much!

With regard to wheel carrier: Opposite lock have a carrier which is (I understand) Australian made, has built in light and looks the goods.

Photo/description is not shown on their web-site but has been in a couple of 4WD magazines in Aus.

Not sure where you are in NSW - I have had contact with OL dealers at Rockdale (Sydney) and Orange, both have been more than helpful.

DO you have one?
Is it a full bar replacement?
I was thinking just a wheel carrier with the std bumber would save a lot of weight.

Looking at adding a 115 lt tank in the back aswell.

The OL carrier fits onto existing rear bumper - pivot to drivers-side end and locking latch near recovery point access cover.

Had one fitted yesterday (at Rockdale) as well as other bits and pieces (OL drawer system, cargo barrier, GME 3440 UHF, Aerial on wheel carrier, Rotronics 3 battery system, second battery in D3, fridge on slide). Off to SA next week for couple of weeks in Eyre peninsula, Googs track and Flinders - this should show how good all the gear is.

OL also have a long range tank - will probably add (or other brand?) before heading into the Simpson & Kimberley next year

Wheel carrier

Hi IanR

Are you able to post a couple of photos of the OL wheel carrier? I have spoken to the local dealer and they have been helpful but haven't been able to help with any photos.

Cheers

Hi Evan,

OL's spare wheel carrier was featured on page 18 of the June edition of the 4x4 Australia Mag. It has a gas shock, and fits to the original bumber.

One drawback is that the whole light dissapears behind the wheel, and does not have any other lighting to compensate for this.

It retails for $1166 ex installation.

Hope this helps.

Spare wheel carrier

The spare wheel carrier from 4X4 Intelligence looks the goods. Has a gas strut to manage the opening and closing and a more positive latch than the other types. That's probably what I will go for (no commercial connection).
PM Simon Arch.

Cheers

Well I am a happy man, got the rear bar onto today and it looks great. I had to put an old 19inch on the wheel carrier and my 18 underneath as the rims require different wheel nuts:

Click for full size, apologies for the glary pics Shocked

General Information on UHF channels.
Looking at your photos I noticed Stevo UHF 33. See below from the ACMA website.
Channels 1 to 8 are designated as repeater output channels, with channels 31 to 38 the corresponding designated repeater input channels. These designated repeater channels may be used for single frequency communications provided they are not used in the locality of repeaters.
33 is a designated repeater channel. In many areas of outback Australia you are requested by the local authorities not to use these repeater channels. Even though 5/35 is the designated emergency channel the others are also used.
06 TDV6 SE with many LR and after-market extras. Used only on weekends and trips out west.

Stevo,

Carrier looks great, but I really like your 18" with the General Grabbers AT2's.

Make/Model/Supplier please?

Thanks,
Pierre
