Having had the OSF bearing changed last October, I'd noticed a similar noise was happening again but quieter and it didn't sound like it was OS but neither was it deffo NS.
So logically I was thinking NS wheel bearing but maybe diff ?
Anyway, discussed with mechanic and he thought that my idea that if one side was worn out (couldn't be turned by hand ... although I was trying to avoid getting filthy ) wasn't sound as they don't often need replacing in pairs.
However, went ahead and had it done ... and lo and behold when he turned it in his hands he could "feel a notch".
Car no longer makes the noise AND, added bonus, when the parts turned up they were £30 cheaper than originally quoted and had a 3 year warranty so he's happy and I'm happy too.
and the £30 will go a long way towards 4 wheel alignment ... when the other garage I use can fit me in. They're all mad busy round here - probably folks wanting cars useable as against using public transport.
First mechanic tells me he's getting loads of "small" jobs that he agrees to squeeze in and when car gets dropped off he's being told "oh, and whilst it's here can you look at ... " which is cocking-up his workflow somewhat. .
