What’s the difference in these 2 shell Helix oils ?
Looking for oil ready for the up coming service I have 2 1 litre bottles of Shell Helix ultra to use and that meet the right spec for the vehicle and will get a 5 litre to make up but noticed they have ( AJ-L on the bottle )and others I’ve seen have AF-L , Both WSS-M2C 934-B Ford code , Is there really any difference?

I think we can summarize this as “it isn’t very easy to differentiate between all of these”.
The specs on the AJ-L and AF-L are quite different yet they claim compatibility to the same reference specifications.

Thanks for the replies, The AJ-L is what is specified from Halfrauds , I brought a litre to to up when I thought I was loosing oil and got another 1 litre to carry with me when I went on a few hundred mile journey, Been ok since but service due so wanted to use what I have and just noticed this isn’t available in 5 litre at halfrauds and can find it available in 5 litres even on shell website , 1 litre and 100 and something litres tubs only!! , Yes looked at the smith and Allen oils might consider this, Also thanks for the update on the D4 description being 05 Will rectify accordingly

Indeed. AJ-L replaced AF-L and both meet the correct spec for my D4.
However, I've moved over to Smith and Allan oils now and their equivalent is Momentum C1 F 5W-30 which meets WSS-M2C934-B. From memory, ~£25 for 5l.D1 300Tdi - gone
D2 Td5 ES (Alive remapped...mmm) - sadly gone
D4 2012 SDV6 XS - Stolen
D4 2014 SDV6 HSE - Shiny

Davethego , do you think the smith and Allan oils are as good quality? Eight foot, not sure if I trust oil from eBay even though I did look and it’s not much different in price!
