I suggest both of you have extended test rides, as I am sure you will.
I heard of someone, like you, giving up two wheels who bought a Piaggio, I don't know which model.
It was sold on within 3 months, as they couldn't get on with it, although experienced motorcyclists.

You need an 'LT' (Long Track or suchlike is meaning) version that has the front pair of wheels spaced wide enough to qualify as a trike and thus can be ridden on a car licence. A few people have been caught out by that foible......
I have ridden these before and they are a hoot, whilst not 'uncrashable' the extra stability offered by the third wheel means they go round twisties like a sports 'bike (and can embarrass a few too.....).
The 500cc version is pretty rapid, will cruise at 80mph quite comfortably. I'd likely get a 350 version though for this 'trial' if it goes ahead.
I would go for a bog-standard Vespa if just a case of keeping two wheels in the garage for myself but if SWMBO is up for it I'm prepared to get an MP3 for a try out for her, I can well imagine she would stick with one of those rather than a traditional 2-wheel option of any sort plus the trike curtails the tortuous test and capacity restriction hoops you have to jump through these days but if she wants to give it a go will be booking her on training at local airfield.

Ordered a standard Vespa 300 in the end. Someone else's misfortune was my (sad) gain. They had ordered the scoot' from stock in March and then a couple of day's later Covid-19 took off and lock-down and their personal circumstances changed so they never even picked it up....
The dealer agreed to sell it 'on commission' for them as a used scoot' so they will have taken quite a hit on the original RRP and then paying commission as I've got it for around 18% less than list price for a 20 plate with 5 miles on clock....
I can at least say "I've not hung the helmet up for good just yet"

A two-wheel Vespa comes under the relevant 'bike licensing - 50cc moped, 125cc learner legal and the 300cc is A2 licence compliant as it only has 23bhp.
I hold a full, unlimited capacity 'bike licence

B licence (car) would cover you on a 3-wheeler designated as a tricyle (the front wheel track designates whether it is a trike or not, not the fact it has three wheels, not all three wheeler's meet the classification of trike......).
Think the law changed as it used to be you had to have passed your car test before a certain date (something like January 2013 IIRC) but I think it is now just if you are over 21 years old with full licence.
In that case you can just hop on a trike and ride away, don't even need to do CBT but you'd be a bit mad to do that if never ridden a 'motorbike' before IMO
The 'bike tests is complicated now as there is a fast route, a slow route and differing tests for capacities, it isn't straightforward
