Well that was a :censored: disaster!!!!
AS the title says our latest trip to France with the tintent was an absolute disaster!!
On the way south we could smell diesel at our stop over site and discovered a leaking fuel hose connector! Had it replaced by a local garage that the AA towed us to and we were back on our way with only a days delay! Or so we thought! 300 miles later the replaced connector split worse than before spraying diesel everywhere and billowing out smoke!! This time however because we were attached to the tin tent which is over the AA's 7m limit for a trailer they wouldn't come out to us! !!
So used the TOMTOM to find the nearest garage and limped it there! Pulled up with diesel spewing out the bottom and smoke billowing out the top!! Chap in the garage didn't speak a word of English and our French isn't good enough but between us explained the problem and the mechanic trotted off into his workshop and returned 15 mins later having made a connector by welding pipe together! Total stoppage time was 20 mins and we finally arrived at our destination!
We had a great couple of weeks at the site and assumed our troubles were behind us as we set off for the UK on Monday! Wrong!!!!
We got as far as the A13 just past Caen and were sitting in traffic minding our own business when ........ some idiot Belgian decided to park her Golf in the back of our tintent!!
The resulting fallout took five hours to sort out before we were underway again however tentatively! This made us too late for our stopover site as it was closed so spent Monday night on some waste land hoping the Gendarmes were busy!
Got up early Tuesday morning and made a run for the ferry!! Made the ferry and driving up the A2 we hit a pigeon with the van which cracked the front!
And to cap it all the number plate fell off the disco at some point!!
End result is a written off tintent and a new towbar being fitted to the disco!!
Don't think I'm ever going out again!!!!! 2004 Disco 3 TDV6 SE

Thought our trip to France was bad but it only rained.
What hose split? Might be something we all should check.Dale
But I think it has been bodged together at some point before I owned it so I will need to sort out the correct pipework at some point! Gotta deal with insurance company's at the moment!2004 Disco 3 TDV6 SE

Gotta laugh or I'd dry! The only good thing is we were in half a mind whether to change the van anyway so its made that decision for us!
Just gotta wait for SWMBO'd to find the layout she wants!! 2004 Disco 3 TDV6 SE

Not a good trip!! Hopefully the idiotic Belgian will be paying for the tintent. I've got friends in Luxemboooooooorg and they are forever slagging off the Belgian drivers, they may have a point.

This is what she did to her Golf:
and this is the tintent;
It doesn't look too bad outside but its pushed all the units on the offside forward an inch or two knackering it!
The problem is the van is an Avondale who no longer exist and parts are not available so everything has to be repaired or made bespoke. Hence the labour costs would be astronomical!
Wouldn't mind but we'd been in nose to tail traffic for 3-4 miles before she hits us!2004 Disco 3 TDV6 SE

I quite agree at the minute!! Her insurance will be having a nice large bill! About £6-7000 for the van and a genuine towbar and socket from Landrover! Gods knows what that will cost the insurance!!2004 Disco 3 TDV6 SE
