Any way to make LR3 TDV6 Euro 5 compliant?

Hi everyone!

I am a happy owner of a Jan 2008 LR3 2.7 TDV6 Smile

Is there any way I can make it Euro 5 compliant? Maybe there's a kit for this?

Thanks,
Alexander

This wouldn't have anything to do with the announced law to allow(!) Shocked diesel cars in Athens???

Have they narrowed it down to only Euro5 engines?

You are well informed! Yes, it does. Back in the 80's a law was introduced that banned diesel cars from Athens and Thessaloniki in order to improve air quality. Today they decided that this law will no longer apply to diesel-engined cars that are Euro 5 or Euro 6 compliant.

So I am wondering whether there is something I can do to put my beloved Disco 3 on an emissions diet...

I don't think you can do anything. I seem to remember that the EUR 5 engines are the twin-turbo 3.0 TDV6/SDV6s from the Discovery 4/RRS.

It's based upon the same engine as your 2.7 TDV6, but is a completely different thing. There is nothing that you can just "swap" over.

It would be cheaper to just change the car. Crying or Very sad

Also, you have to remember that the EURO 3/4/5 category is set during the type approval testing - simply fitting a EURO 5 engine into your EURO 4 approved car probably wouldn't convince them and you would surely not be able to get a certificate proving compliance.

I was hoping that maybe (just maybe!) some tuning kit plus special exhausts would do the trick and bring my current engine inline with the Euro 5 emissions. The law passed through parliament today so I don't have the details, but most probably you are correct in stating that it is difficult/impossible to change category once it's set.

Maybe a better option would be to paint it bright yellow and get a taxi license... there are approx 15,000 diesel engined taxis in Athens and they are (and have always been) Exclamation excluded Exclamation from the diesel restrictions... go figure how lawmakers think Rolling Eyes

Thanks anyway!

The limits are given here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_emis...enger_cars

You *might* be able to get a 2.7 Euro 4 TDV6 below to meet Euro 5 limits by retrofitting a DPF, but LR themselves have discontinued the 2.7 and only made the 3.0 meet Euro 5.

Quite how you'd prove to the bureaucrats that you do indeed meet Euro 5 I don't know Confused

is it not the same issue as London LEZ, ie Boris has appointed garages that are authorised to retro-fit DPF to earlier vehicles thus making them compliant or is it a case where your Goverment are saying that its got to be EU stamped Euro 5 or higher Question

Yer never know, might find you can get DPF fitted here to be compliant Thumbs Up

Looking at LEZ (snigger) briefly, looks like the exemption for retrofitted DPFs goes from 3rd Jan.

DPFs were an option on some European spec (German?) D3s, don't know whether they complied with Euro 5.

Hmm.. the DPF might be a viable option. Thanks for that suggestion Smile

I tried googling for some specs on Disco 3's DPF but wasn't able to find anything. Do you happen to have any info on it?

Not quite true - the 2.7 is still sold in D4s in some markets outside Europe - like Australia.
