Water leak from rear tailgate

I noticed last week that rain water was running down the inside of the tailgate glass Shocked on the passenger side. It was booked in for today and luckily it rained last night, the rubber mat in the boot had a puddle of water in it and the carpet right at the edge was damp as well as the carpet on the tailgate itself. On removing the trim above the tailgate the cabling is soaked.

Anyone else had this?

I had water coming in through the rear window just below the high level brake light. Big puddles when it rained. Fortunately I have a boot liner.
Anyway, I had my rear window taken out and re-bonded last week.

Funnily enough, I just had the first heavy rainfall about an hour ago since the window was re-bonded. Just checked, and water is still coming through.
I was in at the dealer today to get a split in the high level brake light looked at, and so I'm thinking the water is probably coming in through there?

Yes I had it since new... now finally fixed by the dealer after three years!

On mine it was getting past the sealant around the high level brake light and running around the back of the trim. When the trim was full you'd see it run down the inside of the glass!

Actually, I say high level brake light, on mine it was around the sealant on the rear wing which replaces the high level brake light. - The wing is secured with the same black sticky stuff that's used to fix the brake light... and in exactly the same way.

Some idiot originally ordered the car with the wing and this was never fitted right by the supplying dealer. I requested that they put it back to the original brake light, but apparently this would have cost me a lot of money - what they did instead, was a whole new wing, properly sealed and painted under warranty.

Although it's now sorted, it's probably best to also check your tailgate switch hasn't corroded over time? Mine did.

Well, the dealers just called to say it needs a new high level brake light fitting, as this is where the water is getting in. They asked if they could keep the D4 as the new part should be in tomorrow.

Reading all your comments, it seems this happening to quite a few D4's Rolling Eyes and all the ones mentioned so far, are 2011 models

Thanks guys for your post. I picked up a 2011 Disco 4 Monday and now it's Saturday and found same water leak issue after having a cardboard box in the boot passenger side after heavy rains. Looks like I'll be bit busy tomorrow trying to fix this. Sad

Had mine replaced a few weeks ago (2010), exactly the same issue. HBL replaced and now no more water Thumbs Up

Had to be broken (smashed) to replace and remove the old bonding.

I have same leak in exactly same spot and upon close investigation of the light I have a nasty crack in it. Seems with all the sunlight exposure the top deteriorates and just cracks then small amount of water will leak in.

I saw Narpys post about replacing and I literally just put small bit of clear silicon on the crack and no more leak Smile she is a 2005 car now no need to get fancy it looks like a horrible job to replace it.

Did you do it yourself or gets someone to do it?
Mines faulty AND i have the water leak but after hearing about the bonding I've been putting it off.

I had the 'faulty' HBL replaced under warranty and the water leak fixed itself Wink
