Hi aln
There is a drain tap on the filter, if you remove the 2nd belly plate back (the plastic one) the filter is situated in front of the fuel tank behind a little heat shield.
Usaly the problem is with the filter head itself, from memory I think the complete assembly is about £40.00,bracket,head,filter,sensor, the lot.
Bit of a t**t to change but not to bad.
Hope this is of some help, happy groping

thanks ,found it this am ,speaking to the dealer about the steering issue anyway so asked about the water in fuel warning ,they reckon it to be a sensor fault .It has gone to them to change steering rack joints so they will look at sensor at the same time .
I appreciate the replies though and will no doubt need more help when the warranty runs out 2008 disco 3 xs

I read in here that it if it is not cured by new filter and sensor, it could be the filter housing that needs to be replaced. Is this the "£40.00, bracket, head, filter, sensor, the lot" listed by aptech4x4? And how t**t to change? As mine is a 2007 without warranty. Local indy said, by the way, that they would start by looking for wiring problems inside A-post... 1951 Series One 80" 1600cc Deep Bronze Green
