water

Anyone had waves of water over the windscreen after driving through more than a few inches of water?

Depends greatly on your speed I think... faster it doesn't do it as much and the same slower.

Both our Freelander and my previous Audi did it at the wrong speed.

I guess when you hit the water it pushes it forwards and upwards.

Tyres make difference too, with MTRs on all the water gets pushed sideways and back rather than forward and up too as standard road tyres tend to do

My D3 does this, but so does the old 2a. The main difference is that in the 2a, the water goes forward-up-over the bonnet and IN through the leaky bulkhead Laughing

In my experience most large 4x4's suffer from this if you are going fast enough. It is not a D3 specific issue.

I agree with it being speed dependant. Following advice on this forum, I upped my speed from 30 to 50mph through the big ones; Yep! Clear windscreen!

...Lolly-pop man didn't look too happy though... Wink

On the flip side, make the most of these puddles whilst you can - when the drought finally ends down here there won't be enough water about to enjoy them. Sad

I've had the following vehicles, all of which suffer from the same issue. The reason for it is because of the higher clearance at the front, there is a larger 'face' of the tyre exposed, which then pushes the water forward and up.

Mercedes ML Embarassed
Range Rover Classic Very Happy
Freelander Very Happy
Defender Very Happy
Range Rover P38 Very Happy
Range Rover L322 Very Happy
Range Rover Sport Very Happy

Guess it's just one of those things you get used to! Wink

Let's face it, driving in any conditions is only dangerous when you are exceeding your own capabilities...
...so perhaps we could fit 'in-front' mudflaps too to help out Laughing
