!!!! B*stard did it to me again tonight, at 50mph on cruise up the same hill (not M67 but A560 Dual Carriageway, Stockport-Bredbury, Gareth will know it) its bonged 'Engine Management Failure'
What I did notice this time was that it had cut the turbo (i.e. loss of power) and I think it was running at access height (i.e. bumpy) - the 'i' indicator was on and confirmed the message 'Engine Management Failure'
I've been up that hill fine once today without an issue!!!! May be its the Cruise which is tipping it, I don't know?
Went back out 20 minutes later, did the CTRL-ALT-DELETE on it and its been fine. I'm gonna push it a bit hard tomorrow and if it pops again its going back to Guy Salmon with instructions to sort it by Friday lunchtime (as I need it for a trip to the South Coast next weekend!) or give me a replacement Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Just done a quick tally...
I've had the Engine Management Failure message 6 times in 130 miles (at 6, 10, 30, 31, 45 and 125 miles) and had two resets done...
Can anyone beat 6 miles to the first fault?
Can you guess I'm keeping a log?Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Mine had the same message come up with roughly 19,35,70,90,120....that's when I called it a day and dropped her off to the stealers arrhhh! Funny thing is it always popped up in 5th or 6th gear cruising, mine needed a new Turbo....fairly common fault I've heard and usually go from the word go ie fault from factory. Guy Salmon Kingston did mine, took them two weeks but she has been fine since then, now has 1050 miles on the clock 2006 TDV6 SE

Steve, I think you should get it looked at. All too familiar, and I think you should make GS sort it without fail. It is simply not right, so let them know.

Whacked it completely round the M60 at lunchtime, and up and down the full length of the M67 (where I had my pitstop on the hard shoulder on Saturday) for good measure, with not so much as a sausage of a problem - I drove it deliberately how I intend to drive it on road, steady, 70mph on cruise where possible, a bit of poke now and then as required - 45 miles of lurrrrrvvvly motoring - OK, I so I love it again!!!
I'm convinced this is something very very very marginal which is (hopefully) disappearing with the new-ness of the vehicle - and I have only had one bong since Saturday (Day 1).
Its going on the drive tonight until Friday afternoon so unless it bong's tonight, I won't be bothering GS this week.Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

I suppose you could be correct with the newness causing errors. Maybe the vario nozzle in the turbo is new and a bit stiff, but I do admire your patience.
I would have let GS look after it until Friday, and count it as "Strike 1"

Further update...
Just got back from a 600 mile trip - Friday-Monday - Manchester-Swindon-London-Ringwood-NewForest-Swanage-Stonehenge-Swindon-Manchester
Manchester-Swindon - 160 miles of superb motoring
Swindow-London - 10 miles then Engine System Fault just after flicking on Cruise at 70mph - reset at Membury Services and then fine all the way to Heathrow.
London-Ringwood - 150 miles of superb motoring
NewForest-Swanage-Ringwood - another 100 miles superb motoring until...
...cruising up to A338 out of Bournemouth and got Special Programs Off and power drained away (no 'i' message either!) - did my first off road experience on to the raised grass verge (no hard shoulder on virtual motorway) - turned it off, turned it on and away again fine!!!!
Rest of journey today - near 250 miles of super motoring!

P.S. The New Forest is amazing - I've never been before - its like a cross between the African Savanna, The Australian Bush and Wild West - perfect territory for the D3 - all the interesting little tracks were gated unfortunately - didn't stop me winding up SWMBO though!!!Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Went in today - no loan car available, so stuck with SWMBO's mighty Matiz (a good job I'm on holiday this week) Got a phone call about 2.30pm from GS - "we think its the Air Intake Flow Meter, sir. However we don't have the part in stock, sir, it will be in tomorrow morning"
Sounds plausible, if a little irritating - its been promised back to me by lunch time tomorrow...

Got it back this lunchtime - serviceman showed me pages and pages of faults logged, including the one after 6 miles It had them slightly stumped, he admitted they rang Solihull for advice. Anyway Air Flow Sensor replaced and "if it happens again its a turbo swap!". Has been fine this afternoon - drove it in a bit of snow over Charlesworth this afternoon - was nearly rear-ended by a **** of a window cleaner in his rusty old Ford Escort on the way - I thing I would have been done for GBH if he hadn't slid into the middle of the road instead of me (saw it all in my rear view mirror too) Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
