I am currently looking at purchasing a warranty.
2007 D3 Gs
97000 miles
I have been Quoted by Warranty Direct:
£806.36 (Franchised Dealer covering labour up to £240/hr)
or
£671.00 (independant dealer £72/hr labour)
What are your thoughts? What are your experience with warranties?
I have just taken the car to garaged and had it inspect and it looks like quite a bit of work shall be needed over the next year... Track Rod Ends, wheel bearings, battery change and some other strange noises...
What type of work can I expect them to agree to? How long after purchasing a warranty can I get work done?
How do you find out what work is needed etc?
Many thanks for your help!

Warranty direct are good and come well recomended on this forum.
You will be covered for sudden failure from day 1 for stuff like your engine blowing up, the great thing about WD is they also cover wear and tear items but you will have to wait 90 days for that cover to kick in unless coming from another warranty ie just out of manufacturers warranty

Warranty Direct will be extremely switched on to pre-existing faults and I wouldn't suggest attempting that for at least 3 months. Their first port of call will almost certainly be to put it down to wear and tear and it won't be covered. These policies are all about sudden and unforeseen failure and I would give you 1 chance in 10 of getting any of those paid for. I had a God awful fight with them for one broken wheel bearing on a 3 year old car where that policy included wear and tear from the very start - yours won't. In fact, the car had two dead bearings, but the dealer said my chances of getting them to pay for both were virtually non existant. We changed just the worst one and sold the car soon afterwards. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4

for warranty direct had cover for over 3 years and made a few claims with no problem, when negotiating with them push to have the betterment clause removed, that way if something major goes, engine for example, you will get full payout and not have to pay a percentage because of betterment of the cars value
Hope this helps

Their Reliability Index is a bit worrying! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

I had WD.
Never had an issue in three years and paid out on everything. Walked away from it now as car is older and I just save up but would totally recommend them to anyone.
You just need to ensure the mechanic / garage communicate the failure well (and in the right terminology) and they are fine. James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

I am with WD and paid an additional £50 to have the 40% betterment clause removed, just as well because the turbo needed replaced, so my contribution towards parts would have been £480 if I hadn't got the clause removed

How do you get the mechanic and WD "to communicate correctly?" 2016 D4 Landmark

Bigger garages like main dealer use an electronic system to put request through but smaller guys need to phone up quoting policy numbers etc.
whenever I've mentioned warranties to mechanics they pull a face but to be fair to WD they've not let me down yet

When mine was in for the turbo, the franchised main dealer had to wait 2 or 3 days for approval from WD to fit a new turbo. They had seemingly requested lots of information and photographs (?) from the dealership and had asked if there were any discounts available on the parts costs, the Service Manager did say they were getting a bit fed-up with all the questions and the delay.
I suppose they have to be careful, as the total bill for mine was £2,267 I received a questionnaire from WD last week about the claims process and that was the one negative point I made, it was a rather tense 2 or 3 days for me waiting to see if they were going to authorise the work.
However once I collected the car and paid the bill, I scanned it directly to WD and the reimbursement cheque arrived within 4 to 5 days, a lot quicker than the 10 - 15 days quoted in their paperwork, so all in all, a very positive outcome.

I thought that dealer would rub their hands together for this kind of money?
It seems like getting the right dealer is important then?
Do you have to take your car to a certified WD dealer? Or are you better taking it the LR Garage? Or can a Disco specialist (like the ones on this forum) liase with WD?
Do the mechanic sponsors process warrenty claims? 2016 D4 Landmark

As I understand it any vat registered garage can deal with WD
WD do have a list of garage who they deal with directly meaning you don't need to pay the garage and then claim back from them
I have had no problem and usually have had the cheque within a week or so

In theory as long as they are vat registered then any mechanic could get a claim authorised.
the indy I used were smarter when taking to WD by giving the right answer at the right time, ie has it failed;yes. Would it pass mot;no.! Whereas the main dealer did themselves out of work when I told them if it wasn't covered by warranty then they wouldn't be doing it!
