Warranty Direct
I purchased a three year Extracare policy from WD on the back of the crankshaft threads which abound at present. It cost a staggering £2148.70 for the privilege and included betterment clause and the Emissions/Airbag not covered. I've spoken to them and threatened cancellation and they have agreed to do a deal. Initially they wanted to add £50 per year for betterment and the same for emissions/airbags so an extra £300 over the three year term. After a polite argument I got betterment clause removed and emissions/airbags included for £2k. So in reality it's serious money for serious cover and now I can almost guarantee nothing will go wrong with it.
Point of the post is negotiate with these guys until they give in.
I don't doubt that some may have got a better deal than I did but I got the betterment clause removed and the emissions/airbags for less than I originally agreed to online.
Thanks to the older posts here I found what was missing from my deal and saved myself some money into the bargain.

Yep my negotiation was a 4 stage process:
Apply on internet, await call from salesperson.
First chat immediate 10% reduction
Next chat. I'll have to speak to my manager.
Final chat. That's way beyond what we can normally do, i'll have to speak to my manager.
Terms agreed
P.s. Dont forget Extracare only available up to 62,000 miles.D4 GS 12MY

I queried the mileage and was told the the policy would stand despite the mileage because I bought three years at once. I'll recheck with the salesman once he contacts me by email to confirm the refund. I'll then have it in writing too. FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

You may have to "negotiate" when it comes to a claim as well. They tried to weedle out of a claim I put in once. I ended up going to the insurance ombudsman who ruled in my favour. It took nearly 9 months to get them to pay up.

Hugh, that can be expected I guess, but if the nightmare happened to me without the WD Major Care Warranty that I bought last month, I'd have no one to negotiate with

I've just put a claim in for a replacement suspension compressor and been told it's been declined. The dealership told WD that the relay had caused the compressor to fail due to corrosion. I then received a call from WD to tell me they don't cover issues caused by water. F wa ers the lot of them. I claimed about 8 years ago for similar and had some other bo xs reason given why they couldn't pay out. To ers!
Anyone any thoughts how I can get them to sort it?FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

Where is the relay located? Its not by the compressor is it? If so, have you checked there is evidence of water?
What symptoms do you have/did you have?
That is extremely annoying? I just recently extended my warranty for 3 years like you. I actually asked if it would cover the suspension compressor & EPB module as they were not explicitly listed in the EC list of covered items. These small caveats are so irritating, because there generally always going to be signs of water, dirt etc etc on everything under the car as it all gets wet!!

Hi Rob
I've calmed down a bit now. I found out the relay is in the engine bay where the fuse box is so in a box, in a box in a hot engine bay. I was told by the WD engineer that the relay was with the compressor under the car. My feelings are that the relay has been arcing which can cause them to stick. I very much doubt that any water has made it's way into the relay. I have managed to buy a compressor from stock at Yeovil LR who charged me £753.60 of which I get £216 back when the old one is returned. The labour has been reduced by Beadles at Southend because they took pity on me for the shoddy behaviour of WD. I have started a complaint through WD and will follow up by getting the Ombudsman on side if I'm not satisfied.

I feel your pain and it's just so typical of a warranty company to wheedle their way out of paying up
Quick enough to take your cash, never quite so generous when it comes to giving it back.
I know WD get some good reviews on here but from what I've seen lately they seem just as bad as the rest!!
I really don't know what I'm going to do when our D4 hits it's 3rd birthday in just over a year Discovery 4 HSE

I spoke to a very good service guy at Beadles who said the LR warranty would have covered it. Only problem is the warranty from LR is £1300 a year, so just shy of £4k for the three years I bought from WD for £2k. Having said that, if they don't pay out the warranty isn't worth a light anyway. I can't see the problem being corrosion which is why WD backed the claim. The relay is tucked well out of the way under the bonnet in the engine bay. I just can't see it. I feel it's far more likely to be arcing causing the problem, in which case I would be covered.
Anyone here know the reasons for the relay to stick? FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

Yeah that's an interesting one. If they say the relay has caused it, I would want evidence of how they know, and reasons they have to WD etc. Water ingress into that area should surely be obvious!
Also remember the LR warranty isn't LR, it's just another insurance company with the LR badge on. Also remember the LR warranty doesn't cover wear and tear, so the LR guy saying that it would be covered is one thing, but in reality, would it be? Talk is cheap etc!
I hope you get it sorted mate. I would certainly request from the dealer exactly what they told WD, and reasons for coming to that conclusion!

To be fair the assumption that it is corrosion was made by LR. Well the dealer. They tell me they pulled the relay open to check. I can't see it corroding given the position of it. I've asked for the old parts so I can return the compressor and get a view on the relay. I'll see what I think when I get my hands on it.FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

That's what I've done with my other cars and they have been fine. I guess it's just the D4 is very complex, heavy on components/suspension and has known issues with things like inlet manifolds and engine cranks which can be very expensive to replace IF (that's the key word) they go.
I guess it's a case of "well are you feeling lucky punk"?
