One of the most documented problems with the D3 and even on some of the new D4s.
If you can live with it, it's not an issue - just a faulty sensor in the expansion tank. DIY replacement of the tank is surprisingly cheap (£20) if you are handy and the car is out of warranty.
For more info, press the Search button (below the picture of the D3 on this page) and type "Low Coolant Level" into the search box. Lots of reading material in there I think you'll find.
I lived with the warning for several thousand miles until I decided to fix it myself even though the car was under warranty at the time. It just wasn't worth the hassle of booking into the dealers for it. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

Was caused by a porous float ball, causing it to sink. Requires new coolant tank.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Thought as much, but just wanted to confirm.
Well it looks like I'll be off to my local LR store to get one. Failing that I'll try the local plumbers
Thanks for your help

Get some coolant at the same time, as unless you are very careful, you will lose some when you do the swap.

I have no heating issues and I'm not loosing any fluid or I would have investigated. That was the reason for me scratching my head. Couldn't see any sensor that i could test.
I was rather hoping that someone would say that it was algae build up and to wipe the red thing in the blue bottle and hey presto!
But I must be thankful that it's not something serious I suppose
