Warning to those doing oil changes!
Decided to do my own oil and filter change today given the rip off prices dealers charge.
Main dealer serviced it last 2 times.
On removing the oil filter and cleaning it out I decided to clean the housing. Now if you don't actually get above it and look down you can't see it properly at all.
Wiped it clean with a rag and found that either side of the housing is a wiring loom with 2 labels which seem to have gone hard and crunchy with the heat, these are fair sized labels made of plastic.
When it was serviced last they must have caught one or both of these and they ended up in the oil filter housing!
Imagine my shock on pulling out large parts of plastic that were clearly obstructing oil flow above where the springs and gubbins sit. Cleaned up the bits and it was obvious that it was these effing stiff labels.
I'm amazed it didn't cause a problem, could of wrecked the motor.
Glad I took the time to do the job properly myself.
Did you drain the oil from the bottom or use a vacuum pump from the suction port in the engine bay? I've seen half decent oil vac pumps on eBay for about 50 quid which I'm tempted to try - so much easier than doing it from underneath. You look like you have a non DPF D4 like mine - which oil do you use?Previously:

Too right!. Could have ended in tears
Must admit though- I panicked a bit seeing large pieces of something in there covered in oil till I established what it was.
Drained it from the bottom- old school style!, bit more work but at least you know all the oils out.
I used c1 grade, It does have a dpf as far as I'm aware?
The DPF was optional for MY2010 I believe. Mine hasn't got one, which I'm very pleased about. It seems the oil spec is less critical without a DPF?Previously:

I don't know, what kind of vehicle do you have?
[Hint - fill in your vehicle profile by pressing the profile button near the top of the page!]
You need a diagnostic tool to reset the service reminders on a D4.

A simple code reader will not do it but there are many professional and consumer tools that can. There are also forum sponsors that can do if for you for a small fee if you do not want to buy your own tool or spend money at a garage.
If you like DIY servicing then buying an IID Tool or similar makes a lot of sense.
