| [Wanted] Long roof rails - black |
|
Eldest is in process of buying a house and I reckon the bigger items he will want moving warrant a set of the longer rails.
Realise they're not silly money unless I go LR but thought I'd ask on here before I start looking elsewhere.
Anyone got some lurking in the shed/garage they no longer need ? .

Ok... Guessing that's a "no" 
In that case has anyone tried buying from Turborevs on fleabay? Seem to be in Bolton so close enough i can pop there to get them. .

Dean van hire or if you’ve a tow bar you may find hiring a trailer is more economical and easier on your back.

nooo !! don't say things like that ! if SWMBO starts seeing "alternative logic" I may not get the roof rails. 
besides ... £110 isn't too bad.

too cold to go and fit them but a quick look at the bits and the quality seems pretty good. .

Are they black or silver? I've been looking for a set of black extended bars for a while but nervous the cheapo ebay specials will be a **** to fit! Cheers,

The cheapo bars are ok tbh. I had an issue with the front piece not quite being the correct profile so had to persuade it with a warm air blower but it soon reshaped and I soon had it looking good.
Also, the fitting kits are usually made of chocolate so you might be better getting decent quality fittings but the rails themselves are generally quite good.

ok ... they're on.
the only actual problem is that the rear nearside bolt snapped when I was taking the short rails off.
as Narpy has said, rails are very good but the fittings - and I've not had my hands on the LR versions so can't compare - seem a bit plasticy to me. given it was cold today, I was a bit concerned they'd be very brittle ... had to give a couple of them a good thump to get them all the way into the rails.
(a couple of the original blanking plugs shattered rather than allow themselves to be prised out).
the bolts supplied seemed too long so I re-used the originals. the screws to retain the rear plastic ends could've been better and I'll swap them at some point.
but for the money, i'm very pleased. just need to get that broken bolt out now, but i'll be waiting for a warmer day before even attempting that. (plus i'll have to get right drills and extraction kit.) .

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!
took several hours very very carefully drilling out the old bolt. extractors wouldn't shift it so carried on with the drilling.
nice smooth 6mm hole, about 3/4 inch deep ... borrowed a 6mm tap, which was a bit fucted so took 1/4 inch off the end.
carefully cut a thread ... tried bolt, needed a bit more thread.
carefully cut some more ... not quite enough, so couple more turns of the tap and ... it broke off in the hole.
so ... that's tomorrow spoken for I guess. more careful drilling.
