Just fitted a kit I got off German eBay. Works well for the money.

Buy an Altox…

Gsm / phone operated. Works at every distance, radio remotes are only a fancy gadget from your couch but cheap.

Altox can be extended, easy, to cabin heating… (as a second stage if funds are tight to do it at once)
 Best regards
Harold

Re: [Wanted] Fuel Burning Heater Controller

What do you need for a Disco 3 for cabin heating. Just to WBUS-5 GPS unit? Looking to get one asap.
Also do you just need any sim with a balance or a specific network?

Cheers

Hi! Cool

Welcome!

for cabin heating you need also a IPCU..

https://altox-europe.eu/product/altox-europe-d3-rrs-easy-ipcu/

This one is plug&play

If you like gps tracking, yes that W-BUS-5 GPS is the one , i like that feature…
That altox is also a webasto diagnostic tool (basic), so saves you some money regarding that…

You need a SIM… with balance or subscription….

I use a cheap subscribribtion, no hassle and always works

Specific network? No.. but i use a low frequency provider, low frequency networks tend to have beter coverage in the countryside..
 Best regards
Harold

Cheers for that Smile

Looks like I need both the WBUS-5 and IPCU
I’ve got a cheap giff gaff sim ready and a basic GSM controller on now so I’ll swap them out for the altox kit.

Gives me a good option of using the cabin heating when camping with the leisure battery

I’ll be back when I’m struggling to set it up hahaha!

Much appreciated

Euhmmm. Your heater matrix fan and the FBH are still fed through the main battery normally. So they will drain your main battery not your leisure battery i am afraid..

So then you will need to find/manage to install a additional relay/switch setup to separate and feed the heater matrix fan, the fan control and the FBH from your leisure battery without draining the main battery

Idea? To keep it simple? (Maybe too simple, never tried this myself)
Could be easy maybe, if you can find a strong enough seperator relay (who can withstand max charging currents of a starter battery) and make your leisure battery your main battery when there is no key in the ignition lock.. so the starter battery is 100% out of the circuit when using the cabin-heating function..

Still…the length of the use without recharging is limited to its charge / capacity…of the (leisure) battery.
Ie a few hours continuously
 Best regards
Harold
