Volvo The XC90 Inscription |
|
What a pile of , had one for about a week.
Suspension faulty.
Car wont play music from phone bluetooth but allows the odd call if I'm lucky.
Unimpressed with the engine.
Really unimpressed with the auto gearbox my belt driven Polaris Ranger changes down better
Brake hold thing comes on all the time and makes a nasty noise when it finally releases, ie pull into a car park, stop and wait for someone to move, when they have moved you go to move but hang on the Volvo decides its going nowhere, so you accelerate, eventually the brakes release with a grinding noise and off you go, its horrendous.
Tailgate is too low when open.
The D5 is 100 times better In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

There’s a “Twin engine” version of the XC90 in an associated company and the cars were swapped about to make sure that only the person who never drives anywhere got the XC! But that’s shocking, I’d no idea they were that bad
Thanks for the warning; I did very briefly consider one a year or so ago, when the Fatty was acting up, but that’s now ancient history 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Correct me if I am wrong, but did'nt several forum members sell their D4 and buy the XC as a replacement rather than the D5 and say on here how good they are?

I seem to remember that at least one did.
The killer for me is how short the Volvo warranty is, with 60,000 (21 months for me) being the maximum for the OEM warranty and the absolute maximum, paid for, extension being up to 80,000 miles (around 27 months) - with absolutely nothing available after 4 years old, no matter how low the mileage.
It’s odd for a manufacturer that likes to talk about how long it’s cars are supposed to last and were even the first to fit 6 figure mileometers to be able to keep track of it all. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

We got an XC60. We weren't in the market for a D5/XC90 and there's no comparison on capability, but it meets our needs. Ride is a bit choppy, but then we didn't tick the box for air suspension; in hindsight a mistake we'll not repeat if we get another.
XC90 meets the use case for many who currently run Discos - but it's not a direct competitor for towing and offroad use. I don't think there really is one? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Have to say that everyone I know who has a Volvo (XC40, XC60 and XC90) can't say enough good things about them. My son almost had an XC60 as the PCP thingy was compelling compared to the Velar prices at the time until I got an amazing deal through work so he had the Velar.
Have to say I would be tempted by one if it was my own hard-earned cash buying it and it was used as a 'car' only (as opposed to major off-road usage needs).
Surprised to hear that about the XC90 in the OP

I took a top of the range T8 out for a long test drive and was hugely underwhelmed as it just didn’t feel special in any way whatsoever. Everything was nice (except the engine and weirdly springy brakes) but just not quite nice enough. They’re starting to look a bit dated now as well and when I saw a basic spec one in New York a few weeks back I had to study it to work out whether it was the old model or the new one!
I’ve said it before but I’ve gone from hating the D5 when it was launched to realising it’s actually excellent and a huge improvement on the D4, if not a direct replacement.

The XC90 isn't as impressive as I had expected. It certainly isn't in the "big tourer" set, and the motor leaves you wanting more. The engine is better in a smaller vehicle. It's a nice vehicle with all the trimmings if you like the tech, but if you're expecting it to be like a Discovery, you're going to be disappointed.

Moo don’t forget about the Ssangyong Rexton. 7 year warranty, 7 seats , tows 3.5 Tons and 4x 4 with low range box. Admittedly mine is already in the garage with a failed UREA injector but the dealer came and got it and gave me a brand new Korando until they sort it. Korando seems nice but I wouldn’t buy one.
