Vibration and tyre balance. |
|
About three weekas after Land Rover replaced my tyres for inside edge wear.
I noticed some vibration. Inspected the wheel weights and noticed I had only one inside weight on rear tyre( all outter wheel weights were present). Took my vehicle back to the dealer. When I got it back noticed only inside tire weights on the rear tires only.
I feel a little vibration but not sure if it's because I'm looking for it.
Is it possible that my dealer did the job correct? And no inside weight are required on the front tires.
Or as I suspect the service writer told the tech all weights were missing and he only looked on the outside. He then assumed the customer was clueless and nothing was done. I asked and they said all tyres were removed and balanced but no documentation.
I have no problem making the dealer valet my vehicle if they did such sloppy work and sending a bad review to president of the dealership and Land Rover Centre manger.
But I don't want to loose my creditability with them if in fact they did do the job correct.

If its vibrating then they did not do it properly. It may only be just noticeable, but its a £40,000 car, should you should expect perfection.

Did they replace all tyres or just the front tyres?
At what speed do you notice the vibration?
It is my experience that specialist alloy wheel suppliers, rather than the tyre suppliers, tend to give the best balance (tyre suppliers are not so skilled and tend to rush the job), the risk of damage to the alloys is minimised (as they are used to working with expensive new alloys)and they frequently are cheaper. The specialist alloy wheel suppliers will balance the wheels so that the balance weights are all on the inside and depending on the design of the wheel plus how visible the balance weights will be may even split them in order to hide them behind the wheel spokes.

The dealer replaced all 4 tyres. I noticed the vibration the most at 50mph and then at 75mph.

And when they replaced the tires did they adjust your wheel alignment, or are they still insisting that adjustment is not possible? If it is the latter, I strongly suggest you find another dealer.

VIBRATING AT 80 KMH TO 110 KMH |
|
Trust me !! I am battling with the exact same problem. I have now fitted Pirelli Scorpions and although the ride is more comfartable the vibration is still there. My Disco has only done 1000 Km (600 Miles). My first disco 3 never had this problem. No matter what, Land rover will have to come with a solution to this as a vehicle costing 570 000 South African Rands (+- 51000 Pounds) is not expected to have this kind of problem.

I have seen a few threads on various forums on this. I also had this problem with my Nitto's being fitted on my truck. I had a procedure done called "Road Force Balancing" and they were able to balance the tires much more precisely. It was inexpensive to do, and worked effectively.

NWoods thks for your reply. What exactly is meant by "Road Forced Balancing". Is that similar to on the car balancing or not ? Being a motor-dealer with I think a reasonable feel for this type of problem I am of the opinion that the problem is with either an out of balance wheel-hub, side shaft, faulty air-suspension or something close to this. When driving it feels as if it eminates from the left front but i can be wrong. Being a brand new vehicle I have requested my selling dealer to sort out the problem as I do not want anybody to tell me that this is pretty standard and OK. There is just no way that anyone can expect you to live with this for as long as you own the vehicle.
