Vibration felt throughout the car

Hi all,

wondering if I can pick your brains before going to the dealer (and spending the day telling them what to look for):

I've had an annoying vibration for over a year now, can be felt all through the car but more pronounced on the steering wheel and pedals (though the rear view mirror also vibrates to the point of being unusable some times for example, also very noticeable on the front seats). There are no other symptoms while driving or warnings, or anything out of the ordinary TBH, just the vibration being there. This first started happening following a day off-road with some serious puddle wading and rocking about (D to R, right to left) to get unstuck 8)

SYMPTOMS:
Vibration is there constantly when engine is on, less so when in neutral than in any of D,P and R and changes pitch with revs (so that over 1200rpm it's much less noticeable), suggesting it may be gearbox related (which I dread Crying or Very sad ). Whether rolling or stationary makes no difference neither does having the climate control on or off. Additional occasional symptom when rolling and turning in either direction is a slight humm (as if there is something grinding on the brake disc if that makes sense). The car has been given a "clean" bill of health on two occasions I took (and left) it at the dealer.

ELIMINATED CAUSES (from previous dealer visits, though will re-check everything at next visit):
Tensioner pulley
Front and rear A-arm bushings
ARB bushings (these were changed to the uprated part a couple of years ago)
Sump guard bolts
Engine mounts

With the above in mind, can I please ask for a list of things to check from collective past experience, as the chief tech guy at the dealer can't be bothered to investigate more quoting "all diesels vibrate" Shocked This time, I'll have to take a day off work and insist on this list to be checked... I am sure this is not how the car was before that day and convinced it has (slowly) got worst over the time I've lived with it...

TIA! Thumbs Up

Doubt it's the fan, there's no loss of power or mpg change.

Thanks for the idea though, will check that as well anyway Thumbs Up

Thanks Marco, I'll read through that, though don't have any gearbox problems as such, no issues with the toque converer or slippage...

Not a bad idea to check the ATF for water contamination though while I'm there Thumbs Up ... Dealers can do that, right?

dealer can do that............ Thumbs Up

here (france) a friend has the same symptoms
also several councils: the software update
The BVA cooler is integrated into the main radiator so it all must be replaced.
I have not heard of this particular problem, now I do not know all the worries either!

To return to the vibrations must also check all the suspension components, tansmission, isolators etc. .... or even the exhaust line so fixed, it's a good quick visual control and the tightening of the running gear and above it cost nothing.

I would do:
Oil Analysis
Checking the level of the LDR
If contamination, check the radiator common, and possible change
Drain and filter for the BVA
test

Take off the wheels and wash the inside. Probably packs of mud there.
The older I get, the better I was.

recon you have several faults:

park brake shoes would do the same from experience, shakes the whole car, then dissappears at lower speed - simple to see, discoloured drums on the offending wheel.

also recon yer transfer box might be the cause of the whinning noise, more obvious when coasting Thumbs Up

wheel bearing/s also sound shot when yer turning Whistle

IMO I recon looking for ONE issue rather than several is not a good thing to do when owning a LR, particularly if you've been offroading Rolling with laughter
