Hi guys,
Am i missing something incredibly simple, but as a Brit I could be missing the point.
I am saving the pennies to buy a used V8 Disco 4 later in the year, maybe a 2011 for about R4/500,000
But why isn't there many, all I see is diesels!!
Looking to replace my V6 Fortuner, so accept the higher fuel price, but is that the only reason why there is so few around. I will admit to have not done the maths, but is the price of fuel the only factor? Surely there is fellow petrol heads out there driving these petrol guzzling beasts, there certainly seems to be a few 3's, or am I still nieve in the ways of the world here in Pretoria?
thx for the help

Yip, I have a D4 V8 and my one friend also have a D4 V8 but they are vastly outnumbered! By the diesels.
A pitty though...they are so good to drive!! So much better than the diesels.
In town consumption is around 18l/100km but on the open road at a steady 120km/h you get to 11l/100km easily.
Get them at a good R50-60k cheaper for same year/kilos as well.

Well, just going to wait, not in a rush to buy, the right one will pop up sometime, hopefully without a black interior!!!

Good luck trying to find one without the black interor, they are as scarce as hen's teeth
Comming from a beige D2 it was very anti-black interior, dust etc shows immediately, especially driving around Southern Africa, but I learnd to live with it a bit.
Eventually settled for a D3 HSE as it ticked all the other boxes and "talked" to me.
IIRC LRSA sold around ten Diesels for each V8 (D3 and D4), SA sort of have this "I love my diesel bakkie" mentality and that has rubbed of on sales of everything bigger than a MK1 Golf. But hey why follow the herd
For long distances the fuel cost does start to add up and the V8 is naturally aspirated. Keep in mind Pretoria / Gauteng is around 1000 - 1300m above sea level so you tend to lose a bit of power compared to living at the coast (or in Europe).

Same here in Kenya. The diesels greatly outnumber the petrols.
And there are as many diesels spoilt in garages, with owners looking at bills of up to Kes. 600,000/- for repairs.
Difference in diesel and petrol pump prices not much here, though petrols are all viewed at as guzzlers. For me its a 4.4L V8 engine. Perfect. Powerful. Silent. Fast...Like wind?
