V8 Brake upgrade = Insurance Premium Hike |
|
Disco Mikey just did my V8 upgrade in less than an hour this morning and an excellent job it was too.
My insurance is up for renewal so I shopped around for a quote and found that the ability to stop more quickly and by inference be less likely to have a crash, INCREASED my insurance premium by £60! That's an increase of 40%!
The brakes will be no more expensive to replace than originals should there be a claim and surely more stopping power reduces, not increases the risk of a claim being made!
This increase was across the board using gocompare to make the comparisons, one run without mentioning brake upgrade and the next with it included. Robbing gits!

To an insurance company better brakes = drive faster, simples..... Autologic remap, Superpro front lower bushes. Privacy Glass. 4x4 info enabled. Now sitting on Michelin Cross Climate SUV tyres. New Borg Warner turbo Nov 2014. Recon gearbox 2019.

It'll be for all the claims that you stopped a 2.7 ton quicker than expected and they rammed you in the A .... Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!

Yes I did consider doing that Mike but then if I have a bump and they declare the policy void because of all the nice shiny bits you have just put on it, I am up 5hit creek.
They are slippery gits at the best of times, looking for any excuse not to pay out so I don't want to give them any ammunition. I even told them to add the wheels to the mods even though they were fitted when I bought it but I know they are not standard.

Ignorance is no defence to an insurance company I doubt, you've done the right thing declaring
I had to pay £25 extra with Hastings but actually blagged them with another cheaper policy so ended up paying the same to renew
And I still haven't fitted my Brembo's

A plan were the best for more than 1 mod by miles as they had access to specialist policy's, but with just the brakes the weren't competitive funny how insurance underwriters work

I went with Adrian Flux in the end. I was more confident that I was getting the cover I wanted from them. Trawling through the fine print on online policies wasn't worth the hassle to save a couple of quid.

Mine was £265 fully comp and for business use. It includes off road and greenlaning. They were a few quid more but I couldn't be bothered trawling through the others to find what cover I was getting.
