V8 Auto Gearbox Question

Hi Everyone,

We have a 55 plate V8 D3, bought it used with 13k on the clock. It has now done 23k.

Since we have had it I always thought the auto box was taking too long to change down from third to second gear. Usual scenario is you enter a roundabout in third gear, lose speed going round it and when when you expect it to change down too second to exit the roundabout it dosn't. You end up pressing the accelerator down to the floor then it kicks down and shoots off! Or sometimes I knock it into Sport mode to assist a change down.

The D3 was used in the centre of London to ferry kids to school before we purchased it so I thought the ecu had learned a bad habit but 10k miles on it still does it.

I havn't had a gearbox ecu reflash yet because I'm not sure if it would help?

I'm finding that I'm useing the manual mode more because it's a better drive, which is not idael.

Has any other member experienced this?

Regards,

David.

I have the same experience. It takes about a second to change and get a reaction on the throttle. It feels a lot longer I have to admit. Just remember not to floor it as it doesn't shift quicker anyway.

I didn't know there was a software update for it.

Hello Roel,

Glad someone else is experiencing this as well as myself. I don,t think there is a software update as such, when I mentioned a reflash I should of said that the dealer can wipe the gearbox ecu memory clean so it can start learning again.

Not sure if this would help. It is probably a niggle I will have to live with. Drove my mates new ML this weekend and the gearbox change on that was sublime and was very responsive, wouldn't buy one though. Smile

Hi,
I have two V8`s and they both have exactly the same symptom. It is obviously a `software` issue. My guess is that with most V8`s going to the States where they don`t have roundabouts the issue hardly gets noticed! If more V8`s were in UK customer pressure would probably have forced LR into action.

Hmmm haven't really noticed this. This could mean my car reacts different OR I don't drive comparable stretches.
I'll give it a try tomorrow, let you know.

I get (I think...) a similar symptom, to me it feels like a deadspot at the beginning of the accelarator. To test it if you slow down all most to a stop and then mash it, there is like a second delay before anything happens. Reported under warrenty yesterday but... Unable to recreate fault... Suppose I'll keep reporting it.

Is it the same problem? Dates back a bit, but as 10forcash notes in the thread (about half way down) there are TSBs that can fix it - and whatever they do, it did fix mine.

Tried it out today.
Came to roundabout, slowly applied more power when exiting, no problem
Came to roundabout, suddenly applied more power when exiting. No problem
Came to roundabout, floored it, no problem except my grin got so wide I almost swallowed my ears Laughing

So mine is definately not suffering from hesitation when moving

BUT

I read through the topic Mossy quoted. This I *do* recognise; when pulling away from traffic light or whatever, I get this hesitation followed by an accelleration shock. Even after a few months I haven't gotten used to it. Only thing possible is avoiding the prob by using featherlight pressure on the pedal, wait till the box engages and then press it further.

My car has been at the dealer a week back. As I had a few issues, they updated all modules in the whole car (or at least they say so). So an update as old as described in the 2007 post certainly *must* have been uploaded...

I'll live through it though... wouldn't miss my V8 for the world Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green

regards,

Wiljo

Had the HSE into Duckworths today to check for any updates required. Apparently it was due for several to the engine and transmission modules. So far it seems to have made some improvement, will keep you all posted.

Had the same, and it was sorted out with a software update at the stealers. Not missed a gear since. Thumbs Up
