V8
Hi got the itch to buy a V8 discovery after having the diesel and a V8 supercharged sport but quite fancy a V8 my sport mpg was about 12-14 but did quite often dip to single figures quite often what could i expect to get from one of these cars in the real world if you don't mind me asking Discovery 3 se gone

Assuming D3 V8:
12.5 ... 20 liters/100 km
Highway at 80 km/h .. city with constant breaking and acceleration < 30 km/h
Mine is usually around 13.8 l/100 km
(Do get one, you won’t regret it)

Mine can deliver 22mpg on a run. Around 13 towing my 1.6 tonne caravan and that's about it. I don't really use it for town runs, but would expect it to match my previous v8 Supercharged RR at 15mpg

Over 10k miles or so my average has been 15mpg. Mainly country and A roads. Like said, motorway at 70 20/22 possible.

Interesting. Mine is slightly better on the computer (for what its worth). About 16-18mpg around town / extra urban. 22 to 26mpg on a run. At the mid to lower end on a run now probably due in part to the Duratracs
I have managed to achieve 400miles on a tank.

Petrol figures for mine average about 17, but using that right foot does make a very rapid difference to the MPG And yes as above 20 plus is possible on a run, think my pb was 21 on LPG.==================================

I use roadtrip on iOS to calculate the average consumption based on filling full tank and odometer.. as well as expenditure (€€€€€) - the car computer is rather conservative unless you’ve tuned it with IID.

Wow impressed with about 400 on a tank well impressed lucky to get 200 out of my supercharged Discovery 3 se gone

Yep only once.
Hard drive up to South Wales on Saturday evening. Heavy rain and standing water. Filled up at Winchester and drove up to Trecastle (up and over the Storey Arms). Managed 22.4mpg on the dash. Drove up around the mountains this morning and that dropped like a stone. Topped up at Abergavenny on the way back. Dash reading 247miles @ 20.8mpg. Squeezed 56.9 litres so 19.7mpg.
Dry on the run back so mpg rose back up to 21.8mpg average for the whole trip circa 390miles (round down by approx. 1.1mpg)
Mine was better pre Duratracs.

In US gallons (about 20% less than Imperial) I get about 15 MPG consistently around town. I can get into the higher teens and really low 20s on very long road trips. Under the latter conditions the car is always loaded to the gunnels - so really heavy.
If you can find a good one (non-LPG) that's been really well looked after I don't think there's a better Disco. (I'm speaking about the 4.4 V8 - not the 4.0, per your question).PAGODA

Yeah we don't get the 4.0 petrol much over here so was talking the 4.4 Discovery 3 se gone

Around town - no idea, I get by on £20 of unleaded per week but we don't do much driving and it's mainly queuing when we do.
Long journeys, we do Cambridge - Northern Italy a couple of times a year. The most 'constant speed' section I fill-up in Schengen in Luxembourg and we are deeply into the reserve when we come out of the tunnel into Austria at Vils (petrol being cheaper in Lux and Austria). According to Google maps that's bang-on 300 miles and we do that at around 75mph (120km/h on the GPS) with three in the car and reasonable amounts of luggage. By comparison the D2 Td5 would get us to the other side of Austria on a tank - an extra 136km with two fairly low mountain passes, on the other hand we were closer to 65mph in the D2 and the tank holds 9L more on the D2.
It's hugely dependent on speed - last time we drove back home from Italy we found ourselves in an unfortunate state of not having any money (long story!). We did Dover to Cambridge, 124 miles, on less than a quarter of a tank at a constant 55mph!
To be honest though you don't buy a V8 (or a D3 or a 4x4 for that matter) thinking too much about fuel bills. The TdV6 is probabyl a bit more economical but once you factor in a new crankshaft, rebuilding the heads when the timing chain tensioner snaps and a replacement EGR stuff, the V8 starts to look quite economical!
