Using the back button to return to search results |
|
Okay, so once I do a search and get a list of results, I then go through all the search results, click on the ones that look relevant and review them. I then hit the back button in my browser, hoping to simply return to the list of search results. Instead, I get a "webpage expired" error page, which forces me to hit refresh, which then gives me a popup warning saying that the information has to be resent, and so I have to click on the "retry" button in that popup, which then, finally, gets me back to my search results (but only after actually running the search again).
Needless to say, this is REALLY annoying. I actively use about 15 different forums for my various vehicles, and I get this problem on exactly 2 of the forums, this being one of those 2. With the other 13 or so, hitting the back button simply takes me back to my search results without any issues or additional clicks whatsoever.
So, is this possibly an IE 9 issue, or something to do with my settings? I'm hesitant to accept that either of these are the problems considering the fact that my IE 9 with my settings work absolutely fine on 13 other forums, but I will certainly consider any solutions that anybody can offer.

I get this as well and it is annoying, but the funny thing is, after maybe 6 or 8 times it then starts going back to the topics without going through the "retry" scenario.

This could be a browser, cache or cookie issue tbh I'm not sure it is site related ...but no doubt Martin will take a look 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Why dont you simply open the thread you want to look at in another window? All you do is right click on the thread heading in the search results, and select "open link in new window."
This means all you have to do to go back to the search results is close the window.

I was annoyed by this too, in practically all browsers (using IE8, IE9, safari and FF). I now open the topics
I want to read in a new tab instead of a new window, so when I close one, the next one automatically gets displayed.
Luckily enough, Apple has added the tab feature on the ipad too since ios 5.0.1.

Thanks for the replies.
For those who have suggested work-arounds instead of fixes (use Chrome, open search results in a new tab), those are just that, work-arounds. When this problem does NOT exist on 13+ other forums when using this same computer, same browser, and same method of viewing, it seems to me to be pretty clear that there is a way for the forum to be set up so that it doesn't happen at all. It simply doesn't make sense for me to use work-arounds for 1 or 2 sites when there is clearly a solution out there (as demonstrated by all the forums where this isn't an issue).
As for whether it is a cache setting or the like, I will point out that I have the same problem on 4 different computers, running 3 different OS's (XP, Vista, Win7), with two different versions of IE (8 and 9). When you get a problem consistently across multiple platforms like that, it tends to suggest that the problem is not with the settings on the computer. Of course, it's possible that I have a particular setting set the same on all these computers, and I'm happy to explore that option if somebody has a suggestion for an actual fix.

Same happens to me - various computers running Win7 / XP but all with IE8. It is frustrating.

It's largely an Internet Explorer issue, and I have no control over its code.
The search is not brilliant, but it is better than it was. Google have a lot more budget to write search engines than I do 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
