Are used Disco 3 prices appreciating? |
|
Hi all,
I bought my 1st D3 a couple of weeks ago for £18,999. It is a 2005 55 (2006 MY) in perfect nick with all the extras (adaptive xenons, fridge, rear aircon etc etc) and had 42000 miles when I got it from a LR main dealer with full 12 month warranty.
I have recently seen several 2005 55 D3s with higher milage (53K +) on Auto Trader at around £22,950!
Is this 4x4 dealers taking the p**s, did I get a bargain, or are prices climbing back up as a result of people buying nearly new and not new?
I would love to know your expert opinions please!
Cheers

Because new sales have been drying up, there's a real shortage of late, low mileage cars. As a result there's more demand for those cars that are out there and yes, prices are definitely rising at the moment. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

hi kaiser,
it does look like prices are going up again, there is a shortage of good 2nd hand stock of SE and HSE's.
With the prices being rock bottom for the last few months lots of people have been taking advantage (me included) and buying much higher spec for the money rather than buying new.
the problem now is stock is very thin on the ground but demand is still high hence prices going up, BUT.
autotrader does seem to have a few odd balls on there, to compaire against yours, i paid £15,500 3 weeks ago for a late 05 SE with under 30,000 miles on... autotrader has one on today that's an 06 but with over 50,000 miles on for £22k.....
£7k is a BIG diference, reckon some people are just trying their luck to see if they can hook someone who hasnt done their homework...
I'm happy eitherway, have got a great car that beats anything else i have owned, and for once, swmbo loves it too..

hey kaiser,
ok, then i assume you're paying £200 tax not £400. and you have a great car,,,,, enjoy,
down here pre march 06 are much sought after, esp as there is only one LR dealer and although they're good, they are expensive too, EG, what you spent gets you a 55 S with side steps and phone prep, no leather or satnav....
you did good,,,,

No - it is the effect of quantitative easing. The government loans more "money" (in fact it is just backed by paper gilts) to the Bank of England and they lend it to the wholeslae banks who then wholesale it to the retail banks. Then somewhere down the line someone gets a credit card limit they can't afford, a mortgage that will one day see them repossed and a personal loan that fails to perform. They spend some of this extra "wealth" on things like new cars which means that competition for used Discovery 3s increases and so does the price.
The the government repeats the whole process until the tax-payer is up to his eyeballs in debt, non performing loans begin to trade like stocks and shares and day to day items price tages look like a D3 fuel bill.
The additional money created by our labour government in this way would buy the equivalent of over 4million discovery 3 HSEs - brand new, no haggling.
Would make a great disco3.co.uk Kielder 4x4 day out though! _____________

ad15,
You are correct, I am paying £210 in tax - a calculated move! You are also correct that it is a lovely vehicle and I am glad I have done well, thank Stratstone Newport for pricing it at that and giving me a good trade in on my 146000 mile X reg BMW.

if you got a good trade in as well then you should be doubly happy, they prob balanced out the trade in against what they had to play with in the d3.. but the end result is the same, as long as cost to change is good then you're a happy man,

Very happy, apart from the fact my wife just scraped it down a wall, scoring the NS back door and ripping off the wheel arch trim! £500 to fix......at least the steel side tubes took some of the damage.
