Upper tailgate won't open

Hi, Discovery 3 upper tailgate won't open. Making all the right noises etc but seems stuck on off-side. Looking at previous threads on here and youtube etc. seems to be removing trim on lower tailgate. Am i right in saying that you have to remove lower tailgate trim to open upper tailgate?
Any advice would be gratefully received as i'm hoping to tackle this today. Thank you.

Yep, you need to access the actuator cable in the lower tailgate and yank it to unlock the lock that release the upper door.

The upper plastic trim on the lower door is very flexible, don't be to afraid that it will break, when you try to pull the carpeted door card out.

Thanks for advice. Have now got tailgate open. The crimped on metal piece on the actuator cable has snapped on two so cable no longer connected to actuator. I'm told that cable not available on its own but is part of latch.

Thanks for posting that KostasA, I used the same fix just now and it appears to have worked fine.
