Upper Tailgate opening by itself |
|
Just started happening today,
If car is unlocked upper lid latch will actuate & release at random
It'll do so even if the key fob is well away from the car - my first thought.
It will open on the physical press button manually every time and on the fob, but something is triggering it - latch microswitch or the press button ??
Lower tailgate operates as normal and is staying latched.
Thoughts gents??

I had this on our old D3.
With the benefit of hindsight, and many, many days of faffing swapping over handles on the tailgate, I now believe it was due to water in the passenger (left) side wiring channel causing a short that triggered the release.
Check if you have any water ingress (sunroof a prime candidate, as well as pollen filter area) and see if you have any water in the channel that runs front to back inside the car. Cheers,
Gareth

Also worth checking the actual handle mechanism, if the switch has been replaced with a ford or aftermarket unit they might not have spliced the cables well enough. Must stop buying shiny toys....

Thanks for replies guys,
I shall pull up the sill covers on passenger side to check for water, but we've not had any rain lately, I don't have a sunroof and the cars not been washed!
Believe the release switch to be original, but it could be causing the issue.
Drove 3 miles last night and the tailgate actuated twice, stopped for an hour then drove home and it didn't actuate once! Bloody thing.

It’s always useful to have the details of you model when asking for help. Can I suggest you fill out your profile with details which will appear in future posts?
Good luck sorting it
Cheers

Hi, I am suffering from the same problem. What did you mean by "release paddle"?
Cheers Shaun
