Upgrading headlamps Discovery 3

Hi all,
New here so forgive if this has been asked already somewhere.
I'm looking to upgrade my standard Disco 3 headlamps with the xenon headlamps if possible. there are a few for sale around, but some say Adaptive and some don't - yet they appear to be identical, some with the same part numbers.
I've been told (and don't know how reliable this is) that as my car has the standard halogen headlamps, I could fit the standard xenons, but NOT the adaptive ones.
Does anyone know how true this is and how I identify if a headlamp for sale (for example on flea-bay) is adaptive or not? (some car breakers may not know if they are or not).
Does it make a difference?
Do I need anything else to make them work or is it a simple plug and play?

Please help!
Its my first Discovery and I love it......

The lights will plug straight in but will flicker when they come on, you can solve this by getting the CCF files changed using Gap lld diagnistics.
For the MOT you will also need headlamp washers

As above they might flicker which can be corrected with an IID. If they are fitted with cornering lights you should be able to get that working with an IID tool aswell. But you won’t be able to get the adaptive lights to move and bend around corners as you are missing an ECU and wires. But just for the cornering lights it’s worth it.

Thanks guys - the car already has headlamp washers (and they work!)

I'll have a word with my mechanic friend and I'm sure he will know what an IID and a CCF file is (he has diagnostic equipment).

The car has developed a really odd fault since I sent it away to be valeted tho - the Valeter took the entire seats and centre console out, including the Harmon Kardon amp under the driver's seat....
Since reinstalling everything (and he is meticulous), the heated seats don't work (I've checked and they are plugged in and the fuse is ok), the radio switches on, but sometimes takes an age to get any sound (sometimes it works straight away, sometimes it takes up to 30 mins before any sound), and sometimes if I lock the car, when I unlock it - the radio comes on FULL volume and won't switch iff until I put the ignition on and turn the radio off and back on?? (which is quite a surprise in the middle of the night - it's pretty loud!)

I'm guessing it must have something to do with the fact that everything was unplugged but it has me baffled.

Its sounds like he didnt wait for the electronics to go to sleep before disconnecting things.
I would carry out a hard reset, theres a how to in the wiki section

Great - thanks fella!

(I'm really impressed with this place, makes a pleasant change to find people who aren't full of themselves and sarcastic - the internet nowadays seems awash with keyboard warriors.....)
