I have a sensor/electronic box that I am unable to identify wired into my D3. I believe it may be a security device (hence no location information given). It looks like a LR OE part but wasn't that well mounted so could be an aftermarket item. It is taped with electrical tape to a solid plastic box which also has a couple of wires to it.
It has a few numbers and a bar code on it - the main (part/model?) number on it is 0888 0889 020047
Can anyone provide any information on what it is?
Thanks,
John

Andrew,
Wiggs,
After pasing through a short piece of plastic ribbed tubing (as found elsewhere on the vehicle) the wires disappear into the main loom.
There is no name on the metal box other than the following codes in addition to the number already mentioned:
5TRKIF00UK 04 0D 14904
04DB9CE
Is the top one a part number?
Thanks for any help.

Sounds like a tracking system to me. They are usually not as well hidden as the installers would like you to think.
Actually looking at the part number it does kind of hint that it's a tracker: 5TRKIF00UK 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue
2007 Golf GT DSG

QJ - it's definitely your tracking system, will send you a PM. LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Pull out one of the cables, if a helicopter appears overhead and patrol cars arrive you know it is still active

Had to have them on several of my S series Audi's previously and was very surprised at how quick they worked. Broke down on motorway and had to be towed to dealers - within 1 mile of the lorry moving off, my mobile was ring and Tracker were enquiry whether the car was "safe" because it was moving with the ignition off. LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

MrH,
Got your PM thank you.
I've never had one before (tracking device) - and had a few S series Audi's as well. Wish I had when one of them went missing from my drive a while back. It made me a bit paranoid about it when I finally got it back so sold it.
I didn't think a D3 was as attractive as a quick Audi!

Retract! Retract!!
Or you might get a little box with wires taped under your car!

Taken out of context I can see how that sentence sounds!
I was of course talking about attractiveness in the eyes of a theif. He wants something fast, reliable and easy to do a ram raid with.
Guess the D3 meets one of those criteria!

Hi
I Found a similar box near Nempnett Thrubwell near Bristol whilst visiting an auction!
It was in the ditch with the plastic cover well battered.
So being the inquisitive type I picked it up and took it home.
Opened it up and found a two compartment box with one half full of UHF radio components and the other with a few IC's etc.
Then I googled the part number and here I am!!
I guess from the previous posts it must be a tracker unit.
So the question is....... What do I do with it?
Sell it a disco driver?
Report it to the police?
Throw it in the bin?
Power it up and see who comes knocking?
Answers on a postcard?
regards

Hey tractorman
Power it up and see who comes knocking.
if it works it might well be worth adding to your car, if not, throw it in a ditch somewhere
