More underbody than Mantec sumpguard
I guess that we are a lot that have the NON WINCH MANTEC sump-guard installed in our D3 !!
I bought it in the "Grup buy take 2"!!! and i'm absolutely satisfied.
Now i want to continue with my underbody protection.... and i have some questions.....
Can we istall ASFIR, RASTA or others..... without replacing our fabulous MANTEC sump-guard?
- Does anyone has the NON WINCH MANTEC SUMP GUARD fited and has installed teh rest of underbody?
- Are they independent?
- Which one do you have?
- Could you post a picture
Thanks!

I've fitted the Asfir gearbox guard and rear diff guard. No problem keeping the Mantec sump plate on. The diff guard is a bit of a pain as it sits about 50mm lower than the diff and seems designed to pick up as much mud as possible but I've never been stuck because of it. Chris Tyler has the same setup.
Here are the parts before fitting:
And here's the diff guard being lifted into place
and here's evidence of its mud-collecting ability
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Thanks NoDo$h
Is "Gerbox protection" the one that goes just "after" the Mantec sumpguard...or ther's another between the Gearbox and the sumpguard?
There are supliers that have more plates...
1) Sumpguard
2) Front underbody
3) Gearbox
4) Rear differencial
The pics are of 3) and 4). The Gearbox guard doesn't sit immediately behind the Mantec, it's about 80cm further back. I've just taken a pic so will upload it in a minute or two.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
Here it is. photo was taken from below the front door handle looking forward

Now it's becoming clear.... let's see a total protection...
1) Sumpguard ......................... MANTEC or RASTA...or ASFIR...
2) Front underbody (transfer?)... ¿Any supplier for that (compatible with MANTEC Sumpguard?
3) Gearbox ............................ independent. could be ASFIR/RASTA...
4) Rear differencial ................. independent Could be SFIR /RASTA...
Some supliers have (1) and (2) in only one piece.
Other possible protections:
5) Fuel tank-exhaust and protect tire.
6) Compressor for neumatic susp.
7) Air deposit for neumatic susp.
8) Sill plates...under doors.
9) Radiator protection two pieces (RASTA).
Some suppliers can make (8+5+6) in one.
In your oppinion:
- It's necessary to have (2)....or with (1),(3),(4) it's ok?Nacho
Yup. Only I went and spoilt it by doing some greenlaning in North Dorset yesterday, hence the mud. Going to do some recces over the next few weeks and hopefully put together a small scale Disco3 greenlaning day at some point, but most lanes will need some clearance work before they are D3 friendly.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. How much did the Asfir diff guard cost and from whom did you obtain it ?
Has it impacted on anything yet and saved the exhaust from a belting ?
Cheers, Neil.

ISTR wasn't Uncle Ray making a rear diff guard? I liked his design.I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?

Diff guard
I have a commercial, so I think I will remove the rear wheel. At the same time I will remove the original exhaust system and fabricate a new system with a single silencer in place of the huge original one. This silencer is much flatter and will tuck up nicely between the frame rails. I will probably run a single 2,5" pipe from the silencer, tucked up closer to the rear diff than the original pipes (and remove the plastic shields) and running close to the frame rail in the spare tyre well, exiting like the original. This should give a nicer sound and hopefully some extra omph.
It will also tuck the exhaust away much better and make room for a diff guard that doesn't hang down way below the diff in order to clear the pipes and plastic shields. There are some holes in the frame rails that should be perfect as mounting points for a plate (two bolts and a guiding pin on each side). The plate will probably run straight between the frame rails, with a bend in the front, to avoid the leading edge of the plate getting caught on obstacles. As soon as I get the silencer, I will make a template out of cardboard and have a friend cut the and bend the plate for me.
Besides these lofty plans, I have the Offroving rock sliders that are excellent, with solid steel covering the underside from the frame rails and out, including the compressor and air tank. I have the version with side tubes, offering more side protection. I also have the Rasta underbody kit, but I'm waiting for their front protection plate.
My only worry is the bumpers: As many has mentioned, it's easy to rip off the rear bumper. I guess the corners of the front bumper are vulnerable as well, even with the front protection plate.

ask Chris Tyler about impcting. wrecked the diff gaurd and saved the diff so worked well. dont think anything apart from relocation will save the stupid location of the exhaust.
