Uncomfortable wrist after a while.

Morning all,

Firstly, just to confirm, I don't keep my hands at 11 & 2 on the steering wheel.

I don't have the arm rests, so my left elbow rests on the cubby box, with fingers at around 7o'clock.

Right elbow rests on the window ledge. Hand at around 3 o'clock.

Recently done a few 4hr journeys towing the tin tent. My right wrist gets a bit uncomfortable after around 2.5 hours, mainly because it is twisted holding the wheel.

Don't feel comfortable with hands at 7 and 5, with both elbows down low.

Has anybody got/tried one of those knobs you can attach to the steering wheel?

At present, it looks like we are taking said tin tent to the South of France next year, so trying to work out what to do.

Already got a number of planned long drives between now and then to find something that works.

Thanks

Richard

Can't find anything to back it up fully, but looks like only legal for Mobility folk..

Also, the fact they are known as 'Suicide Knobs', might help you reach a decision on buying one..

I have one on my tractor, regularly do 12-14 hours driving at harvest and hay making time including using a loader which means 70% of the time shunting back and forth, never had a thought about discomfort- wouldn’t dream of fitting one to the Disco Whistle
I would suggest you experiment with the position of the steering wheel, I find near max forward and down most comfortable for long trips.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

99.9999% sure you're right ... my dad had one a few years back and i found the evidence then to dissuade him.

Hands at 10 and 2 is not the recommendation now...... at 10 - 2 if you crash and airbag deploys your right hand gets flung into the window, lots of cases of broken wrists attributed to this.

Like most things you have to work on changing your hand position as you will have driven at 10-2 for years.
I find I run between 9-4 and 8-3 swapping as I go and it really helps
I have a suffered with a frozen shoulder for a few years now and find it best to try and change my driving positions frequently and last week Survived Montrose to Birmingham and back not staying the same position for long.

As I have a manual seat, I have to adjust it every time I use it. If I clench a fist, and cant easily get it between the top of my head, and the roof, I know I will be ok, and wont need to adjust the rear view mirror.

Thanks for other input guys.

My main thought about it was to still have a firm grip on the steering while, while my hand was in a comfortable position. Don't think I would see any other benefit from actually using it to steer, so would only put it on for long journeys.

Can arms be retrofitted to these seats?
