Tyres suitable for the Discovery 3

Hello everybody,

I would like to fit some MT / AT's to a set of standard 17" rims and the wiki page :
https://disco3.co.uk/wiki/Tyres_suitable_for_the_Discovery_3
gives a list of tyres and sizes.

The standard tyre for 17" rims is 235/70
- Is there anything "official" from LR that these other sizes are OK ???
If yes - could someone post it please. The M.O.T. in Luxembourg only accepts the sizes printed inside the drivers door (unless there is an official document from LR).

Thanks,

-Graham-

There is another 17" size listed for winter tyres by LR , but I am struggling to find it.

Hello johnlad,

I'd be interested if I can get some paperwork from LR that says they can be fitted to the rims.
Otherwise I don't get them through the Luxembourg MOT. And without the MOT I'm not insured.

In Luxembourg you can't just fit any old tyre - there has to be paperwork from the car maker that says they fit the rims.

Thanks.

I have had a trawl with no luck, but thinking about it I believe it was actually a narrower tyre which is probably not what you are after.

OK thanks L319.

Thanks for taking the time to look though !

Hello galwaygreen,

"interesting" - well it might sound like a lot of administrative nonsense if the tyres will "simply work" but perhaps it saves on some nasty surprises later.

It's a bit like in Luxembourg you are required to register at the commune within 3 months of arriving.. You could call this "Big Brother" but it now means Brits have a proof that they have been living here. Anyone in France has a lot more trouble doing that now that the "no deal" Brexit is looming . . . .
Oh, and there's no charge for getting registration documentation either! £65 to register in the UK is well OTT.

But we're getting "off topic" here. . . .
(anyone interested can have a look at http://brill-luxembourg.org )

All the Best,

-Graham-

Hi,

i've been through this in the past weeks

no chance, no tires available within the approved dimensions/specs.

Carefull with the duratracs: no more snowflake so cannot be used as wintertire with a speed limit label on the dashboard. (i had 5 delivered and had to auction them afterwards Big Cry )

You'll bump in load and speed limits for all rough AT and MT profiles.

I have contacted:
LR: no solution and no possibility to expand the range of approved tires (confirmed through UK and SK importer)
Goodyear: Duractracs are faded out for EU market. All productions since start 2018 do not have the snowflake anymore and not all sizes will be produced.
Cooper: no plans on making a higher speed rating approved AT/MT tire, nor a snowflake AT. They will come with a dedicated winter tire in 'a year or so'

So ended up their AT3 sport, otherwise only the grabber AT3 is suitable. Rest are pure road use tires.

With LR not opening up the specs there is an open market for a MT or rough AT tire for all D3, D4 and RRS out there. No interest as far as i found out.

It is Censored to me that manufacturers used the D3 and D4 to launch and promote their products and then simply stop producing them or lower the spec so the tire is not usable anymore. (goodyear MT) It is also questionable that we need a 200km/h speed rated tire on a vehicle with a max speed of 180km/h and most of all that LR sells you the best offroad vehicle without suitable tires available to use it.

I proposed LR to send out a speed limit software patch (160km/h) to the dealer network so we can use Q rated tires. Multiple available.
With the patch installed and a certificate we could change our technical documents and be legal.
They were going to let me know..... low hope and no response till now
Confused

anyone for a group effort?
