Tyres -Which Size would you choose?

I have decided on getting some Duratrac's for the D4 2012. I am unsure what width is best and which profile. Any advice please and do 275's fit without rubbing. My current wheels/tyres are 255/50/20.

Would appreciate knowing what size anyone else is using or what profile / width is best. Not using them off road, but poorly maintained, slippy B roads with farm vehicles mud throughout winter.

255/50/20
255/55/20
255/60/20

255 tyres are normally fitted to 8.5" wide rims, the 275s require 9.5".

Your current wheel width may reduce your options.

Thanks Dave, totally had a dull moment and forgot rim size, thank you. So need to see which is best on profile really for the 255's

Buy a set of used LR 19” rims and fit 255 55 19 Duratracs. A standard LR size rim and tyre for the D3/4.

If you fit any 20” tyre, other than 255 50 20, it’s a modification and you’ll need to inform your insurers.

I did the same - recently bought a set of 19" to swap to from 20" in the winter because tyre choice is limited/expensive ...

Not decided on what to put on them yet but Avon AX7 look a good choice in 19" - M+S but no snowflake. I only go in the occasional field/muddy track.

If staying on 20" because you have no room/can't be arsed for two sets - Cooper Weathermaster WSC do 255/50 and 255/55 in 20" which I am also considering as does have the snowflake & M+S. The 255/55 20 make the speedo accurate I read on here as well as a better ride Wink

I told my insurance company as I also have 275/45 20s and they charged me nothing. Just the wheels, if not standard from the factory build (i.e. for me 255/50R20 8.5J), would not be covered for theft or total loss would be excluding the "modified" wheels (if fitted).

255/55R19 == 255/50R20 in terms of circumference, but even if I fitted 255/55R19 to my car they are still seen as a modification even though they are available for my model. Just make sure you tell them as you don't want them not paying out on a technicallity ;(

My last three D4’s came from the factory with 20” rims and 255 50 20 tyres. Change that tyre size and it’s a modification.

The first modification I did was to remove them and fit 19” or 18” (Compomotive) rims. My insurers were informed and happy not to increase my premium 👍

England

I ran 265/50x20's on both D3 and D4, and these gave a decent compramise between looks and comfort (from a decent sidewall).

Can you get this size in Duratracs?

Thanks Al. Without changing rims, the 20" limit choice. My tyre choice was Pirelli Scorpion AT+, Duratracs, or GG AT3's in that order.

Cant find AT+ in 255, only 275, so that's out. Duratracs do a 255/55/20 and AT3's do a 255/50/20. Just cautious on AT3's as did not like the AT2's on the D3's in our country lanes when wet/light mud/leaves. Consensus is the AT3's are better?

Its always down to personal choice and I want to keep the 20 inch wheels on. Thinking time!

I've been using Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S since January.

Can't fault them. Good off road and quiet on road. Expensive and hard to source though
