Tyres - I apologise, Its new to me, whats the best? |
|
D3 Team,
Sorry, but for me it has always been quite simple. I liked Michelins or pirrelli's. All they had to do was stick to the road, return a decent mileage and not let me down in the wet.
Then I bought a D3!
So i need your help. I keep reading the many posts on tyres but I am non the wiser. I have got the Wranglers on at the moment - I think they are standard on the S at the time?
Anyway, they are comming up for a change (all 4, nice even tyre wear which is a bonus) and I am not sure what to replace with.
I do plenty of road miles - B roads in devon/Somerset. I do the occasional Mway trip (couple of times a month) and I regualrly like to do an impromptu left turn, and drive over the moors - where the encumbant tryes have struggled sometimes - especially on wet mud/grass.
I would like to do more off road if I could
What tyres should I buy to give me the balance (or do I need another set of Wheels/tyres and if so -whats the best route?)
Hope you can help - sorry if this is a real "beginners" question...
Rich

only having experienced the Pirelli 'standard' tyres, they seem OK, Gareth and a few others rate the Michelin - although I find it difficult to give them any kudos on purely patriotic grounds....
MT/R's are my current tyre, and probably will be for some time, some resonance on m/ways but it's not intrusive

The new Goodyear Wrangler F1's seem to look the part. And I just happen to have 4 brand spanking new, totally unused of these in 255/50 R19 107Y. These have just come off a Range Rover Sport (in the showroom) and will happily accept £95 each, which is less than half their normal retail price. Disco 4 TDV6HSE

Heck, is the D3 really needing a load rating higher than 107 ? I imagine the RRS is only slightly lower weight than the D3, but I guess seven seats could take the max axle weight a bit higher ? And the RRS and D3 use different size tyres as well ? Guess I'll have to look to the RRS forum for potential buyers then.
Just had a look at my RRS and wifes D3 outside. The RRS is sitting on 106 tyres (20" 10 spoke wheels) whilst the D3 is on 112 tyres. Disco 4 TDV6HSE

Goodyear make the Mtr's, but I think you can only get them in 19" (may be wrong) and as it looks like you have an 'S' you probably have 18"
I had Pirelli on my D3 and felt that they were quite soft, I had Michelins on my Freelander and they looked to be lasting a lot longer. Zermatt silver 06 reg.

yeh - i found that on my previous cars - always preferred Michelins in the end better in the wet as well...
and yep - got 18's on the S.

I don't think that there are any Michelins to suit the 18"
