Tyres 255/50 R20 for D4 Landmark Alloys

Cant seem to find a thread in relation to this size - If there is apologies in advance.

I am looking to change tyres over due to wear, I currently have Pirelli Scorpions fitted but am looking at alternatives, the car rarely goes off road due to living in smoggy London, and I am aware some claim to have low noise yet are the opposite.

I have come across these Roadstone Roadian HP XL 255 50 20 - Made by Nexen who do the exact same model under the Nexen brand. I have used Nexen before on cars, but never on a D4. Has anyone had any experience with these? They have extremely good ratings in comparison to Pirelli, however you never know what car they were tested on to give the ratings, therefore cant trust it will be accurate.

Any input would be much appreciated!

I had Nexens on my P38 and they performed well with pretty decent grip even in slushy snow conditions. That said the P38 had neither the torque nor the bulk of the D4 so probably not much help to you.

I think Costco were doing a good deal on the Duratracs but may be too noisy for your use.

Never even though to look at Costco, only ever go there to fill my face with stupid amounts of food!

The wet raiting on these is excellent, and economy is pretty good too. Its mainly how they drive and road noise, dont like the idea on changing them to then spend the next few years with a headache! I know it has a lot to do with the tread pattern.

I have this size on my D4. Its fitted with Pirelli Scorpions and I don't know why people rave about them! I find that when driving, particularly in car parks such as Tescos, the wheels lose grip and squeal even at very low speeds. I've used Nexons on a previous Land Rover and they kept me stuck to the road for about half the price.

Nexens were the worse tyre I have ever had. Tried 275/45x20's on my D3, ride and handling were horrible. Took them off very quickly.

Completely agree about the pirelli, constantly get looks as though your driving like a Censored due to the squeel, until they realise I'm barely moving!

Shame you cant try before you buy lol. The only thing with pirelli is they Definately work in terms of low noise!

My D4 is fitted with 255/50 r20 Scorpion Zero. Looking to replace...…...what are the issues, if any, in fitting 255/55 r20 as there seems to be more choice?

No issues at all fitting 255/55, but I'd avoid Nexens.

Very rarely do they wear evenly, IME...

I’ve been wondering about Scorpion Verde all season. Reports on here are very good. Last a long time and good in Winter conditions which my Zeros were not. Not so good in mud though it appears but that doesn’t worry me.

Gary I'm still running the Verde All Seasons and they have proved a good tyre - pretty durable, handled all weather I have encountered really well and are way better for wear than the Zeros.

I had previously run Zeros - hated the terrible wear and tramlining when worn down to c 5mm and then the General AT - horrific when half worn.

If you are mainly on road then I would def look at the All Seasons.

Jumping onto this discussion (with apologies to the OP).

I need to change my fronts but the rears have plenty of wear left in them. At the moment I am on Scorpion Zeros M+S on all 4 wheels (legacy from previous owner) and am debating between the regular Scorpion Zeros (recommended for the car according to the tyreshops) or the Verde All season which have good reviews on here.

Leaning towards the Verde but am I going to create issues for myself by having 255/55/20 on the fronts and 255/50/20 on the rears?

Other option is to go for a 275/50/20 so that the rolling circumference remains the same but worried about the wider wheels catching on full lock?

All suggestions welcome! Thumbs Up

I have 255/55 r20 Cooper Weathermasters on my Silver D3 SE..

I have 255/50 r20 Cooper Weathermasters on my Black D3 SE

Interestingly the speedo is 100% accurate with these oversize tyres on. The Factory tyres show a slower speed than true.
