Any views on merits of different tyres? My HSE has Pirelli Scorpion Zeros & the astonishing thing is they only have 9mm tread depth at new! I am a bit sceptical at their lifespan as my presious car had Michelin Synchrone & I am sure they start with about 12mm. Any experience from anyone? And any feedback as to use of winter/mud & snow tyres & their effect on on-road handling?

The choice seems almost zero. How are your tyres doing. I am even contemplating having a set of steel rim 16ins wheels with off-road tyres.

My HSE has Goodyear Wranglers. I have never liked their tyres, they were a pain on my freelander, but so far they cope well with mud, can't comment on snow cos we didn't get any down here DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Try Goodyear 255/55R19 WRANGLER MT/R they have an aggressive tread pattern that is very capable for snow, mud & sand. Speed limited to 100mph.
The OEM Wranglers are too tame for the New England snow!
I have a spare set of 5 for sale if anyone is interested.

Actually very impressed with them - great traction for normal on road use & not noisy. Biggest surprise is how well they perform off-road - teriffic both on slippery grass and in deep snow, mind you a lot of the credit may be due to the electronic traction control diffs etc and I have nothing to compare them with on the same vehicle.

General Grabber AT2 255/60X18 |
|
Is anybody aware of the availability of these tyres, as mentioned on the Continental website? They seem to be the perfect solution to our problems, with a diameter of 775 mm only slightly bigger than our standard Goodyear Wranglers at 763 mm.

Herman I'm waiting for the grabber AT2's too,
I went to a local 4x4 shop yesterday and they phone General tyres and the 255/60/18 are due out end of the year begining of next
They had the 255/55/18 there and the tread pattern is very impressive pitty the load rating isn't right for the D3 as I would get them insted.

The new AT2 255/60x18 have a load index of 112 and should be perfect ....but having talked to GeneralTire this week, they say that they won't be in production until the very end of the year
I also looked at AT2's 255/55x18 but thay have a load index of 109 whereas the LR spec states a required load index 112 for an 18" wheel. I contemplated having them and whilst I had approval from my insurance company, there was still a major dark cloud over LR warranty issues. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Forget it Keith, you can't get 16" rims onto a D3.
17" is the smallest and will only fit onto Diesels/V6 petrol.
For V8's the smallest is 18".
Brakes are too big.
If you fit into the 17" category, go for a set of Performance Wheels 17x8 BB6 and put cooper stt's or similar on them, like a few of us have. Have a nice day!

Yeah its a shame that the AT2's arn't available untill early next year, I have done some working out with the 255/55/18 load index and they are within the max gross vehicle weight with the 20% safty margin.
Max gross weight of the D3 3230kg Divied it by 4 = 807.5KG add 20% = 969kg
The load index 109 is 1030KG
I'm going to look into this in more detail i'll post once I find out some more info.

So you know MTR's now have an S speed rating so they can exceed 100mph (not that we would)
